Hydraulic Fluid on Floor

Have a brand new BX1880 with less than seven hours. When I park in the garage, I noticed a small wet spot underneath the tractor. I look up and there is a small drop of oil/fluid on one of the four hydraulic lines.

Two questions; is that normal? And, where is the hydraulic fluid reservoir? If it is like my motorcycle brake fluid, I can top off?

Not normal, you have a leaking fitting. Most likely didn't get tightened securely at dealer prep/assembly. You can either tighten the offending fitting or truck it to the dealer and have them do it.

I check my hose connections from time to time. Unless you have a huge pool of oil, you are not going to run out of fluid. They hold a lot.

When I say normal, I mean a drip once in a while like when you disconnect a fitting on FEL or back hoe.

Take this opportunity to go around and check all of your fittings. Check torque tolerance in the manual then make sure they are all to spec. I had a few backhoe hoses that were loose when I took delivery.

You should absolutely not accept any hydraulic oil leaks in a new tractor, and should make sure the dealer will repair it properly before taking it back.
Also make sure you have it documented, just in case it will leak again in future from the same location.

I have just reassembled F3060 (forward deck mower) mainly due to couple of HST oil leaks and can assure you there is a lot of work involved.
F3060 has 30 hp 4-cylinder Diesel engine and is built basically like a SCUT and uses similar parts but is driven the other way around.

In my case, there was a hidden hairline crack in an aluminum transmission housing, causing most of the leaking. The crack was high enough & above the oil level so it would only leak intermittently.

You surely do not want to discover anything like that in a new tractor after the warranty has expired.


Lets hope it's only a loose connection or something similar in your brand new tractor!

When my dealer installed my grapple on my new tractor, one of the lines worked its way loose and shot some fluid, I want to say a good 5-6 ounces. I re-tightened it, checked the fluid level, no change. It's been fine since.

I would make note of it, find where its coming from, take a pic, see if a quarter turn with a wrench fixes it, check fluid level. Anything worse, like obviously a bad line/fitting, send it right back. Just MHO

No, a hydraulic leak is not normal.

I'm going to be "that guy" and tell you, READ your owner's manual. It will not only tell you where the hydraulic fluid reservoir is, but how to top it off, what to top it off with, and when to change it and your hydraulic filter plus lots of other things you need to know about your machine.

No, it is not normal. Your dealer is supposed to fix it. I had my Bx1880 in three times to fix different leaks.
It appears that on some BX's the whole quick connect set of fittings on both side need replacement. Mine was bad enough that the fluid would drip onto the rubber mat by the toe board. You might be able to wiggle the connection and/or disconnect/reconnect ( after relieving the pressure) to see if the leak goes away.

Yes. I read the manual.
It goes back to the dealer for warranty work.
I looked at the fittings and it looks like some three year old kid tried to assemble the thing.
Not a good look for Kubota.
I am not messing with the fittings on a new machine. Kubota gets to figure it out.
