Hypothetical question D902, D722 engines

This scenario will probably never happen...but since I got my BX2380, I'm thinking of selling my TG1860 mower. These engines are not *TOO* far apart as far as HP/displacement specs go, but mechanically are they at all compatible?

I noticed by accident that the BX1880 which I think is almost identical to my new BX2380 has the same engine designation as my old TG1860 Lawn Tractor(mower).. (that is if the 722 and 722E are the same thing...I am not clear on that)

So....after the warranty expires, should something catastrophic happen to my new BX's engine, could I just pop in the 722E engine from my old TG ?

This all boils down to the TG only being worth ~$1500+/- locally and whether to keep mowing a little with it for now and then save it for parts, or make the engine into a generator or keep as a backup engine ?

Space is at a premium, but it might be "worth" more to just save it from going to someone else cheap.

Before I bought my BX just last month, I was going to graph my big walk-behind snowblower (13hp/45" cut) onto the front of the TG, but then took the plunge on the BX, so back-burnered that idea.

What to do with the TG ?

Have you forgotten what you know maintenance-wise about unused engines that just sit-around?

(Much less one that could be sold resulting in money-in-your-pocket which could take care of any problems you’ll likely never have with your NEW BX?)

Doh.

(BTW: I’ve been there. Done that. I’ve got several spare B&S small engines sitting around for the last 20+ years in-case one of mine goes “ka-put”.... Invariably I just buy another new one and the rest still sit-around taking up room and gathering dust. Having stored them now for two decades....They’re not even worth the cost of shipping to you for free parts.)

If an engine-powered item isn’t collectible.... (like a ‘53 Corvette or ‘28 Duisenberg or 24-wheel ALCO 4-8-8-4 “Big Boy” steam locomotive)... get rid of it while it’s worth something to your neighbor.

Thank you for your reply, even though I read it as somewhat sarcastic. DOH, yourself !

I'll highlight and repeat the key take aways (imo) of my initial post.

"... but mechanically are they at all compatible? ..."

"... and whether to keep mowing a little with it for now and then ..."

It wasn’t sarcastic in a “bad” way... I told on myself for also having behaved so ridiculously.

I didn’t address the other two points because...
1- I don’t know
and
2-I wouldn’t presume to think I know all the idiosyncrasies of your life to know how you feel about your old mower. I still have my Dad’s blow-torch.... but mostly for sentimental reasons, since I have my own more modern propane and acetylene torches. I‘d not expect you or anyone else to tell me what to do with Dad’s blowtorch.

But since you seem to want someone whom you don’t know tell you what to do with it.... I”d suggest (again) you sell it and use the money for things more fruitful.

Understood. No offense taken. Very hard to gauge "tone" in an email or internet post. ..s'all good.

If I knew 100% it would fit my BX2380, then I'd probably hang onto it and keep it 'moving', but it's getting a little beat up as it ages, much like it's owner, so if it would not fit the 'BX, then I'd probably do as you suggested, sell it on while it still has some use.

Thanks ! :)

One thing mentioned by others here which I’ve personally benefitted from... is that your local Kubota dealer receives a weekly shipment of parts from the Kubota Distribution Center. If you order parts and don’t mention you will wait until it is filled inside their usual parts-orders.... then you will pay ridiculous freight-charges.... but if you let them know you don’t mind waiting for their regular deliveries.... the part carries no freight charge. ;)

That’s the disadvantage of ordering from places such as Messicks... the freight can easily exceed the parts-price if ordered from their website. (Kudos to Messicks, however, for excellent parts, advice, and service!)

depends on the dealer too. Place I used to work for added 11% (IIRC) to every special order regardless of whether it was regular or stock order. Stock orders if they were over a certain amount of money, free freight + a discount if you played it right. Do you think they passed that discount onto consumers? Not at that dealer they didn't but it was a bigger chain of dealers...and those chains are like big box stores, they have higher overhead than a lot of the mom-and-pop stores do, and they pass that overhead onto the consumer however they can.
