Had this happen the other day. The battery box was rusted and the
ground wire attached to the box from the battery was no longer grounding the system.
The starter clicked a couple times then everything went dead including
on the the dash.
Found a place on the frame with a empty bolt hole just in toward the radiator, ground the paint off with a wire wheel and with a new ground strap bolted it on and everything works ,including the lights which were not working .
Maybe worth checking the ground connection....
Battery up to snuff ?

Woodsy's suggestions are valid. If you turn the key and get a click the safeties are probably satisfied. Clean your battery terminals and connectors really well and be sure they're securely tightened. Track the ground wire to the frame and be sure you have a clean, tight connection there as well. If you still experience the problem it would be a good idea to have your battery charged and load tested.
