That bottle does not say it is synthetic oil it says it has “superior synthetic performance “ (unless I missed the statement). It seems to imply that synthetic oil is in the bottle through a marketing statement but not a statement of fact that the product is synthetic. It is an interesting statement.

I recall reading up on oils several years ago and it had become somewhat moot on if it was “synthetic oil” (which I assume means they take crude oil components and chemically string the chain together to make what they want) or if it is fully processed oil (where they use improved cracking methods) to get chains that match synthetic chains. So does it really matter how it is produced?

Not to me since I have no dog in that hunt and I think the distinction has become very blurred

This is confusing. I have 2 sources of reference. The Operators Manual that came with the tractor. I also purchased the WSM workshop manual for the l3560 through the l6060. 50 Hour maintenance has the follows:
  • WSM clearly states to replace:
    • Engine Oil
    • Engine Oil Filter
    • Transmission Oil Filter (hst)
  • Kubota Operators Manual to replace:
    • Engine Oil
    • Engine Oil Filter
    • Hydraulic Oil Filter (hst)
    • Transmission Oil Filter (hst)
any thoughts on why the difference between the manuals?

Do the 50 hour hydraulic oil filter change, even though the oil for the most part stays until 400 hours, except for what escapes while quickly swapping in the new filter. Then oil and filter at 400 and every 400 after.
For a few bucks for the hydraulic filter and a quart of SUDT2 for top up its worth catching any early break in bits and particles from the hydraulic system. Look close at factory filter for visible bits it caught, shouldn't be much if any.
My B2650 operators manual has the hydraulic filter change at 50 hours.

My L4600 shows 400 for hydro oil it is a gear drive, otherwise it is 200 hours if it were hydrostatic.

Not familiar with the MX but if gear drive seems it would be like mine, 400.
Interesting - I have an L4600 as well, HST. Went into the dealer last spring because it hit 200 to ask about hydraulic oil. He looked it up and told me I don't have to worry till 400. I better check my manual again, maybe he thought mine was a gear drive?

Edit: It did have its 50 hr service by a dealer, I bought it at 77 hrs clean enough to eat off of!

Hi, not sure how often you check this site….but I have the EXACT issue and question. I have an L6060 and the dealer told me not to worry about the hydraulic filter at 50 hrs despite what the owner’smanual says. He showed me his maintenance schedule on the computer (and I also have a copy of the WSM like you’ve shown above) and pointed out that his version (couple years ago) doesn’t show the filter being changed at 50 hrs like the transmission oil filter and motor oil/filter. Subsequently I have not changed the hydraulic filter once and my tractor has 246 hrs on it. I stopped in to the dealer yesterday to inquire again because of all the mixed posts I’ve read on the Net and of course it’s a new mechanic who couldn’t tell me definitively either way. But, the new maintenance schedule at the dealer now lists the hydraulic filter to be changed at 50 hrs. My manual also demonstrates changing the hydraulic filter and fluid together but of course the schedule lists the hydraulic fluid to be changed at 400hrs, not at 50hrs. I am frustrated by discrepancies and uncertainty on behalf of the dealer. I will probably just change the fluid and filter at this time to be “safe” but fluids and filter cost me north of $450. Please let me know what you did/discovered if you get this. Thanks!
