Broken shift boot left go over the winter. Dummy found the tractor and brought it home. Ideas for removing and flushing the hyd system Shift boot ordered. Was thinking of draining the fluid and heating it till the water evaporates and using that fluid to flush the system New boot and screen ordered runs everything works But a redhead in disguise. Hood B7100 frame B7001 but price was good. If the bearings in the trans are not rusted.

I think you are mistaken about you not having a true B7100

The forum guru North Idaho Wolfman has said previously:

ALL B7100's had B7001 in front of the serial number.

If it is a manual transmission model, don't mess with the old fluid as there is much more than water to be concerned about.

Use cheapest new fluid to flush and then good stuff.

You should be able to bring it up to operating temperature, drain, replace filter(?) and refill with new oil. Any residual moisture should be no more than normal temperature change condensation and evaporate with usage.

I thank everyone for the information. Why someone would not spend $5 dollars to prevent this is beyond me. Just worried about the bearing; do not know how long they left this go but will say it is to the top of the dipstick pull that out and it overlows sitting not running.

If you have not already done so go to this site and download the B5100, 6100 & 7100 operators manual.

Manual

It will show you on page 20 that the trans has two drain plugs.

It will also show you the transmission/hydraulic filter-screen that needs to be at least cleaned and possibly replaced.

My 6100 had milk in it on purchase. Ripped shift boot.
I also needed to replace the 3-point piston o-ring. When I had the piston out I could see that the push rod and linkage was rusty, but the gears and everything lower in the tranny looked pristine.
I scrubbed off as much rust as I could reach with a brush. Then I cleaned it all well and sprayed it with WD40 specialist corrosion inhibitor. I then removed the 3-point top link bracket to get to the tranny vent plug. I pulled that and sprayed WD corrosion inhibitor in there all over.
I then drained the tyranny, pulled and cleaned the filter. Then plugged it back up and filled it with cheap hydraulic fluid. Let it set over night, then drove it around a bit, ran the PTO through the speeds(no load), and cycled the 3-point several times just standing on the arms for weight.
Then I drained and the oil was less milky, but still not good.
I then filled it again and will run through the same exercise.
I expect I’ll need to do 3 drains and fills.
After the summer I plan to pull the 3-point mechanism off the tranny and clean up any rust.
It seems the rust is only in the top above the oil where condensation would form.

re: Why someone would not spend $5 dollars to prevent this is beyond me.

Could be he always stored it in a garage ? My BX23S is in a garage, so I've saved $5.......
When you do go to drain it, leave it sit for 3 days draining(week is better..). Had a JD with TT40 in it, bench drained the HST,' most of it', then put paper towel under it, overnight ,towels were saturated with oil, did it again for a 3rd day. Surpirised me how long it took oil to weeeeep it's way out of the HST.
If you can put tractor in the hot sun, more oil will eventually come out....

Thank you drain plugs on the two rear axle covers and will look for that third one on the mid take off case. that may be covered by the main support beam for the front plow it has a full lower support from the rear case to the plow.

Thank you for the information and for pointing me to the manuals. Parts boot screen and seals should be here today I feel for the engine it has a aftermarket oil filter on it that could not be removed without removing the side cover. Bolts rusted tight waiting for penetrating oil to work on them.

Heating the fluid will damage it. It's better to freeze it and then pour off the oil. The water will stay as a block in the container.

The shift knob removal wrap a bar rag around the knob Big channel locks and turn the knob Once it turns you can turn it again while pulling up on it and it slides off No threads
