Do I have a problem?

Hi,

I recently got a new (to me) BX23S. Yesterday I found this broken O-Ring in my driveway. Did it come from my tractor? If so, where should I check and what damage might have occurred in the time I was running the tractor after the o-ring broke?

Thanks,
Jeff

If it was from your tractor, something would be blowing oil. If you can move everything and not lose oil, throw it in the trash. Missing o rings are almost impossible to miss.

It looks like the O-rings they put in the hydraulic cylinders at the factory when they paint everything. Is there any orange paint on it?
If that’s what it is, it’s totally unnecessary and can be removed. Check your other cylinders to see if you can find them pushed to the end of the rod.

Yep, what Njtool said. Nothing to be concerned about. You probable have a couple more of then on the cylinder rams just waiting to break and fall off.

While I will agree that if an o ring was blown on your tractor, you would be leaking fluid, I do not agree that it is one that is on a cylinder shaft prior to painting. It measures almost three inches inches in diameter. What cylinder on his bx23s has a cylinder shaft this large? I ask because even on my b2650 I know of no o ring this large on any of the hydraulic cylinders.

Was the tractor delivered? Maybe something that fell off the truck at delivery time?

Having trouble imagining where there would be a 3 inch diameter O ring on a BX that might fall off...

Now that you mention that .... ( I did not pay attention to the size) ..... you may be on to something entirely different!

Hi,

First - thanks for all of the fast/great replies!

We have a long dirt driveway. The tractor was delivered at the top of the driveway. I found the o-ring near my garage about 1 mile from where they dropped off the tractor, so it wasn't from the delivery truck/trailer.

No orange paint on the o-ring.

I'm not sure that it even came off of my tractor, but the timing is suspicious and I'm a nervous first time tractor owner ;-)

I found a nail on the road about a 1/4 mile from my house.

I hope my house doesn’t fall down. ;)

Cayuga, how do you know it didn’t come from your car? Is your new tractor the only thing which travels your driveway? (LOL, I know what it is to worry about new toys.... BTDT.). A new tractor is highly unlikely to shed old, broken O-rings.

Thanks for making me smile.

Most houses are built with redundant nails. As long as you don't find another nail, I'm sure that your house is safe ;)

It could have come from my car. I think I'll post to the Chevy Volt forum and see if anyone there recognizes it. To be honest, I didn't consider that but I should have 😰. In the end, it probably came off of the FedEx truck and will never be identified....

I’ve owned my tractor for just about two years now, and just about a month ago my wife came to me with a 5/16 nut and threaded section of what I assume was a 5/16 bolt. All nice and shiny Kubota orange paint on it. To this day, I wonder what part of my tractor is going to fall off😱. The only thing that it may have been was the original shear bolt that was on my front mounted snowblower. But I sheared that off last year just after using my blower for the first time. I do check thing pretty good when I do my scheduled maintenance, but I still look and wonder where it came from.

heck I'm impressed the tape measure was Made in USA !!!

Be SURE to grease EVERY 'zerk', especially the ones with orange paint on them !! scrape that off, THEN grease, should come out BOTH sides of the joints. exercise the controls fully several times.

That's the thrombulating dorkenshlater seal. It's right next to the marvel vane. It's Very Important. You must replace it immediately, or it might cause a localized discontinuity in the fabric of space-time in the vicinity of your tractor.

That would not be good.

It does look to be about the right size for the plastic tubes on implements that they store the user manual in. Did you get any implements and actually open the tube and look at the manual.

That’s what was meant by post #8 by Matt Ellerbee if I understand his post correctly.
This is just a more direct (annoying?) restatement of his post.

Suddenly, I recognize that O-ring... it’s from the Turbo- Incabulator:

Looks like the muffler bearing off the right engine of a 737 Max. Probably fell off during a test flight. :sneaky:
