B6000 Soot in Engine Oil

I'm new here and first post.
I'm servicing a widow's 1973 Kubota B6000 that goes to our Church.
Changing the oil, it looks like someone was cleaning a chimney, there was so much soot.
With the drain plug and screen out I dumped 1 gallon of kero in to flush and let it drain over the weekend.
I'll have it run for 5-10 hours then change it again and use a clean pans, one for oil one for kero.
I've talked to servicing managers and they never heard of that.
It's been serviced at a Kubota Dealer every year ( I don't know how they could have missed all the issues ), it's used 30-35 hrs. a year.
Have you run into this problem, no-one has a clue. If I can get a valve cover gasket, I'll take that off and check the valve guide seals and top of head for crud.

Items I found and working on.
Woods RM59-1 mower belt had 3" play, 6 or 7 cans of belt dressing in the shed, belt adjuster not working.
engine belts loose.
radiator antifreeze low, just covering the tubes.
4 wheel drive gear oil never changed, left front had sludge.
Quick connects for loader leaking, replaced O-rings.
Rear light bulb hanging out of the rubber housing.
Steering wheel loose and someone trying to adjust gearbox without loosening the long nut.

Not sure what you are meaning by soot but if you mean that the oil is completely black that is normal with these diesel engines. I can change my oil today and it will be black tomorrow.

Diesel oil is inheritably black and nasty - only way it will not be that is to be fresh oil, now there are different smells that can come with diesel oil too. A black oil is not a bad oil - a black gritty perhaps smelly burnt oil is bad. A black oil is a sign of the oil "catching" all the diesel particulates that slip past the rings.

Placing kerosene in the oil is an old trick to "thin" the oil in the harsh of winter typically a quart of oil was replaced with a quart of Kero - I hope you did not run the engine with a gallon of straight kero in it????

Kerosene was used to lower the viscosity of the oil, but with that the loss of lubrication also came with it.

Kero does NOT have any additives that help keep the engine healthy

After your flush - I would have placed the cheapest diesel oil in there and run it for a while and then dump it! Then place 2.1 quarts of 5w-40 Rotella in there (found at your local walmart)

Mower - get a new belt that is correct in length - belts will stretch over time - and or fix the adjuster.

Radiator - on that machine, I do not think it has a water pump - thermosyphon system, I will tell you this - placing TOO much coolant in there is bad! It will spit it out! I have found that an ideal level is about 1" below the filler neck. If covering the top fins - perfect.

I agree with everything Hokie said above except for the oil volume, the B6000 only hold 2 liters of engine oil.
The B6000s are almost indestructible unless you don't maintain / service them properly. The weakest point on them is probably the steering box, so don't force it too much when turning. Take wider turns if you have to.

Free - I was guessing as 4 quarts - you are correct, a smidge over 2 quarts or 2 liters is the correct volume.

I changed the oil on my B5200 just the other day and then put some radiator flush in the engine and run it for a few hours over several days and it developed a leak from one freeze plug. I had to remove the hydraulic pump to access the freeze plug so I had to drain the oil. It was as black as the oil that had been in there for a year. I don't think it's ever not been black even when it was new.

When I said soot, I mean black grit. The screen and drain plug were out when I did the flush.
I never seen anything like it.

Some back ground, I went full time to automotive school in the late 60"s and a state certified mechanic.

I fixed the belt tensioner today, now it sets the correct tension.
