Selecting pallet forks

I have the need for occasional use of pallet forks. Not often but when ya need them ya need them. On my last tractor I found a used set for about $350. They were quick attach and 42" long. Suited my purposes perfectly.
With my current tractor, an L3800H, I don't want to give up lifting capacity so weight is a concern. The Fel is only rated at about 1000lbs (depending how high, how far out).
With that in mind I found this Titan unit on Amazon: Forks

I can't see me trying to lift anything much above 800lbs (like 3pt attachments). This unit weighs in at just under 300lbs but is rated for 3000lbs. Is there a lighter, lighter weight unit around that might be a better choice?

I was told you want to size the forks so one fork will at least support your lift capacity.

Also you can get those Titan forks on ebay for $50 less.

I have those very same forks. They do a decent job. I did bend the bottom channel once when pushing down on a brush pile. One fork was doing the press downward....totally my fault.

I specifically needed/wanted the 2" receiver, so that was the final selling point for me.

I had always heard that artillian forks are a bit lighter in weight, but they seem to be very spendy. The Titans come in at 283 lbs. If you wanted something really light, you could go with bucket mounted forks.

SSQA? I bought mine from Earth and Turf (in PA). They weigh about 120 pounds, are rated a little more than LA435 loader at 1,200lbs. They are box framed, come in 33" and 36" sizes. Cost $5-$600 cant recall exactly.

Artillian ones are heavy, and cost a bit more.

You might want to think about getting forks with a rock guard on them. The dealer tried selling me forks without a rock guard and I wasn’t having it.

I agree with Njtool. A headache rack could come in handy. Land Pride and UA (palletforks.com) both offer a set with a rack that is sub 300lbs, in addition to the unit above. The UA offering also has a 2" receiver which is handy to have.

I hadn't thought about a rock guard but that is a must. Since I'm sold on the 42" length - never had a problem with length on the last set - and weight is a concern I'm going to pull the trigger on the EA unit.

I don't know why I didn't look there as I have their box blade and back blade and am very happy with both.
