BX2670 Won't stay running...

Issue started last Fall; sputtering/near dying whenever pto in operation (mowing). Tractor idles fine and restarts.. Changed fuel filter under tractor which appeared dirty. Bled and restarted and had been running fine for 3/4 tank worth of snowblowing this winter but recently went back into starvation mode to the point of once snowthrower is engaged will not stay running. I do not have heated shop. Thinking I may need to do either and/or all of these options:
- add some kind of conditioner?
1.Change filter again and see if I get lucky and stays running
2. Change filter and drain tank and check for debris inside tank?

Any other suggestions greatly appreciated!
Haven't looked into difficulty of draining tank. It's so cold here in Iowa (single digits and heading for below zero temps so dreading 😫 working in cold shop. I just jumped aboard on this forum and am thankful to find. Hopefully I can find detailed thread for doing fuel filter modification that I read in recent post.

Did you change both filters before? There’s one near tank and another near injection pump on the engine.

I did not change the one by the injection pump as it appeared clean/clear..... good call; I will make that a mandatory option!

If your diesel has not been winterized you should do so. The lower sulfur diesel is more prone to gelling than the older stuff was.

If seafoam is considered adequate I do add that to my diesel year 'round.

Your description of the way the stalling presents itself makes me think there is a safety system involved in all of this. Typically called an OPC for Operator Presence Controller.

I have attached the logic chart from the WSM outlining the conditions that stop the engine.

Note that the OPC system takes one second to shut down the engine so this can be a big clue.

I have taken a screen shot of the same paage and marked it up with red boxes showing the number of conditions that can cause the engine to stop.

The seat switch figures predominantly in all of these engine stop conditions.

If you need help understanding this information, please ask.

Typically in an Owners' manual there is a simple check out procedure the owner can do to verify the proper operation of the safety systems. I have attached the page from the Owners' manual dealing with checking the OPC operation.

This caused me no end of grief....nicley plugged the outlet spigot of the fueltank. 1/2 the tractor had to be disassembled to remove it....waiting for summer to put HumptyDumpty back together again...

Waiting for warmer weather myself to further troubleshoot but thinking I have tank blockage or diesel gelling issue here....

I tested a b2601 for over a month - there are more safety switches than stars in the sky - I was coming down a 45 degree hill when I leaned to the left to miss a tree hitting me and the engine started to shut off
It was the seat pto switch and I thought what were they thinking - The gentleman above Dave has hit it on the head - the tractors these days are so safe you should just leave them in the barn

Thanks Dave! Not convinced its safety switch related at this time; tractor never completely shuts down and will run fine for awhile before choking starts. I will keep this info though for future reference. Once I eliminate fuel tank, fuel filter, and and/or possible water in fuel issues I may have to revisit safety switch possibilities . I will be relocating fuel filter from under tractor to more accessible location and with filter upgrade soon. Meanwhile the tractor sits until extreme cold spell passes and I can work on it. Thanks again.

Some filter housings have a screen built into them that can become blocked. Remove the fuel line just before the first filter and check for a blockage. Run some of the fuel into a glass container and look for any type of black floaters. Often the black is algae that will grow in the fuel tank. Clean the screen if there is one and add an algicide, found in the auto parts store or Walmart, to the fuel tank.

Hopefully you get this problem solved. I have no suggestions on how to fix it, but when you do, you might want to consider one of these to keep garbage out of your fuel tank.

That is home Mcguyvered from a tea strainer from Ebay, and some creative use of pvc pipe and rasps. I believe there are some on Ebay that might fit your tractor, but fuel tank openings are not standard, so measure twice and cut once.
