3 point hitch question / problem

New tractor owner of MX5400. Just got A box blade so this is the first time I’ve really used the three point hitch. I noticed that when raising the box blade, it doesn’t seem to move until I get up about halfway on the control. So if the numbers go from 1 to 8, it doesn’t seem that the blade even budges is until about number four. Is there something wrong with my three point hitch or is there an adjustment that I don’t know about to make it start lifting at lower numbers?

Are the arms "moving" at 1 2 and 3?

Are there other holes on the arms to change the geometry when lifting?

Seems pretty normal to me. I generally consider the numbers on the position control to be used for how "deep" to set your implement. As in, lift to top then drop it to the correct implement depth.

That's how mine works... would love to know if something could be done to change that behavior...

it is called a position control. Try it with the box blade unhooked and the arms at the lowest position. Then lift the lever until the arms are level with the box blade pins. I bet it is close to the point where you start to see movement when picking the blade.

Interesting. I never really worried about it, so I never looked at my 3PH arms when nothing was connected to them. I guess when they are not connected they would start to raise when I start to move the control lever...and pretty much the position should reflect where the lever is.

Never thought to check this...learn something new everyday!
Now if I can just retain it!

the arms are somewhat below the "pin" height when down? So the first movements just get the arms UP to the pins? I have never used a MX ..... so I have no idea - but I bet the arms move up from down when placed at "2" ?

I can lower the arms and stop the 3ph at 1, 2, or 3 but it only works when setting it down. My 3 point arms about drag on the ground.

Nothing moves until the 3 point lever hits #4 and it goes up past 1, 2, and 3.

With or without something attached on the 3ph.... so yea, "...1 -2 -3 are useless..."

You move the 3point hitch lever; past #1 (nothing) past #2 (again no movement) past #3 (still nothing moves)... and for me at least the hitch will only move once you've gone Past #4 on the position control scale.

There isn't any action until you go past #4; If you quickly lower the lever back to #2 it will stop there (or if it was closer to #3... it would settle back down to where #2 mark is).

The photo, move to the upper holes; your arms would be higher and raise higher but would not be different otherwise...

I was really hoping someone would say that an Feed-Back rod needs to be adjusted somewhere. So that when you move from the bottom to #1 or #2 - the arms would actually move.

I've replied to others about this same thing so it's not that rare....

This is a similar question relating to B's and L's also...."must move well past the position control-stop before things move up...5, 6, 7, etc."...

The position control doesn't affect raising, just lowering.

I think it's just the way they work, as "old and tired" relates.

Does anyone have a 3ph that moves when going from the very bottom to the #2 spot? (position control valve)

Thx for all of the replies. This now makes better sense. Never noticed where the arms are without an implement attached
