Is there Aftermarket Ones Cheap??

They Appear to be about 3" long and 5/16" thick

For my baler I use a standard harware bolt you purchase at any hardware store ( TSC ). Cheap.

FWIW -- bolts are not shear pins and vice versa. Shear pins are designed with a task in mind -- protecting you equipment. They need to shear at the right torque. Use bolts with the understanding that you risk your equipment.

Many years ago I got a line on a cheap box of shear pins for my baler. I bought the box. About every 100 yards the pin sheared -- that wasn't very much fun.

I've invested in OEM shear pins ever since.

Some of the snowblowers have a groove machined in the shearpin to weaken it. We had one come in last winter with a broken gear which has a "standard" bolt in it instead of the proper pin. The right shearpin would have been much cheaper!

As earlier stated, bolts are not a good replacement for shear pins. I often see this solution used, but there are too many potential problems.

One Specific consideration is the grade of bolt used. A grade 2 bolt from you local hardware store will likely give before your tractor gears, but may leave residue behind. A grade 5 or 8 bolt, like from a cat D8, will likely be much stronger than your implements or gears.

A bolt also may enlarge the hole somewhat before it breaks, causing a new set of problems.

I have the GR2120 with the GR2728 snowblower. I go through at least one pin on the snowblower discharge fan every time I use it. Apparently there is an upgrade that will remedy that so I am waiting for the dealer to get the parts and schedule me in.

I checked my shear pins for the blower fan (5/16" by 2 1/4") and found that I have both grade 5 and grade 8. Just to be safe I am setting the grade 8 aside.

Does anybody know what the specifications are for the Kubota shear pins (70060-01338)? Grade 8 or Grade 5?

Just be safe set both of the aside!
A shear bolt is grade 2 approximately 35,000 PSI, that's a lot of force.

A grade 5 bolt shears at Approx. 70,000 PSI, double what the grade 2 is at.

A grade 8 bolt shears at Approx. 90,000 PSI about triple what the grade 2 is at.

Replacing a shear bolt with a hardened grade bolt will only leave you replacing broken parts that shouldn't have been broken in the first place.

It's better to have to replace that stupid little shear bolt 100 times over replacing drive components even once.

FYI, Tractor Supply has grade 2 bolts (shear bolts) in the fastener isle. They will have no markings on the head of the bolt. Grade 5 bolts have 3 marks on the bolt head. Grade 8 bolts have 5 markings on the head.

When starting up your PTO, engage it at idle or slightly above idle, and then speed it up. If you rev up the engine and then engage the PTO it will probably break the shear bolt or bog down the engine.
