Mine are on the left side. Benadryl worked good last night so thanks. I had been taking an acetometifin compound with some Benadryl elements but no antihistamines. I think the antihistamines helped.
Correction: Benadryl is Antihistamine. I misunderstood, so the other compound I took should have been as good but it was not. Could have been because it had different additives, also it was a store brand.

My son came down with a case of shingles when he was 13. He had chicken pox when he was 4 or 5. I remember he never complained about pain or anything while he had shingles. His biggest complaint was he couldnt go swimming. Hes 33 now.

I thought I was an exception when I got it the first time at 20 but a friend's son had them at 16 so it is more common. Also I don't recall it being so severe at 20 but that was many years ago.

Remember that Shingles vaccines are only effective for 5-10 years. In fact, the earlier versions (over 5-7 years ago - live vaccine) are only effective about 5 years. My sister and I had the live vaccine those 5-6 years ago, and she had a small, mild bout of shingles this year. Doctors said the old vaccine was wearing out, not that effective. Newer vaccines are better. Wife and I have now had our new vaccine shots in Nov., and due for booster in Jan.
Talk to your doctor, get the vaccine or even re-do it again. My sister's case was mild, probably because the old vaccine was still helping a little bit.

I got " Bell's Palsey " 10 yrs ago which is is caused by same chickenpox virus. My right eye lid & jaw still has a slight droop . At that time did some research & Mayo Clinic was recommending magnesium & l-lysine to keep the virus from comeing back.
If you ever had chicken pox the virus stays in your spinal fluid forever is my understanding .
What's weird is I have guy that did some occasional sub contracting for me & he is one day younger than me. I woke up the day before my 61st birthday with Bells Palsey & the next day he broke out with shingles on his chest & back. He has never got completely well to this day.

Been dealing with this, shingles, for 7 yrs now. Started as a feeling that my left eye was scratched and annoying, went to the docs and they said we'll be seeing alot of each other in the future. I thought 3 weeks and I'm outa here, 7 yrs later and i'm on a 3 different eye drops twice a day and some pills. Damaged my optic nerve and retina and will never get better. Barely had any pain or rash but I think taking lysine daily helped with that.
I would get a few opinions if you haven't already. I have many friends who are surgeons/specialists it always surprises me when I ask their opinion individually on health related issues. There is inconsistency in the diagnosis and the treatments suggested are also highly varied. The one thing they do agree on is that you should stay out of hospitals as much as possible. How much do you figure your 7 years of treatments has put in this doctors pocket? No offense meant to all the good people employed in the medical profession. Truth is , incentives govern behavior to a huge extent. Read Warren Buffett
