Around where I live there are at least 4 or 5 farms that sell beef by the 1/4, 1/2, or whole. I don't know what availability is right now though. I have not checked for several months.

One of the grocery stores had beef loin on sale at a great price a month or so ago so we bought 4 or 5 of them, cut them up and vacuum sealed them. Also have one freezer full of moose, also vacuum sealed which we enjoy more then beef so we're pretty much set as far as that goes. Very hard to predict much of anything these days except things will get much worst before it gets better. "Saw a light at the end of the tunnel but it turned out to be a train"

The reason I am miffed is that someone I thought I had a deal with suddenly did something else and didn’t even try to let me know. I get it that things come up, but a quick text would have been nice. I won’t starve but in winter I like the feeling I can go down the basement and shop for something to fix for dinner. A quarter lasts me two years, and well vacuum packed helps, which is what you get from the better processors. My neighbor that has a deer stand in my woods gave me some venison. I am officially out of the lamb business since I got rid of the last ram that was mean, and only keep the old ewes to keep the grass mowed and not going to ship old sheep that produced lambs for many years. There is a little lamb in the bottom of the freezer.

Okay, you want to see something more recent? Check out this story. It is from yesterday but I would say in the coming weeks you will start seeing more stories with harder news.

Here is what concerns me at the bottom of the article....

"One way meatpacking plants of the future will avoid infections among employees is to completely automate the plants. The virus pandemic will expedite smart slaughterhouses."

So, lets look at the long term effect. If everything becomes automated, those jobs that people use to have, will be gone, many jobs eliminated for the sake of automation. People still need to go to work to eat. (bite nose to spite face?) Now lets look at the growing population... where are people even going to work if everything in the world as more things become fully automated.

We dont have a virus problem, we`ve got a population problem. The more people we have, the bigger the problem`s. As populations grow, they need jobs. As a bigger population grows, its spreads viruses faster.

Until we do something to solve the population problem.... ugggggg.... sigh 😞

You have every right to be upset with him, a little respect for other people goes a long ways. That's poor business and it will come back on him because I'm sure you're not the only one he's done it to.

Deer season is helping many folks remedy their "red meat" shortage.
With that in mind, if anyone has more venison than they need there is an organization that accepts surplus meat and gets it to people in need. Here is a link.

We have a buffalo farmer here that processes/sells the meat. It's mighty tasty, too!!

I know most of the processers around here or I should say I did, Seems most have been bought out, or closed, and their prices are nuts! And really the meat is no better that the markets, but the yuppies and millennials think they are getting top shelf stuff. My problem is cooking for one, I found stuff in the freezer from early last year, I know cause I date things I put in the freezer. Granted I vacuum pack most things but still over a year old kinda changes the flavor a bit
Just add a little whiskey to your meat when you pack it...
Whiskey gets better with age so it's gotta work right...

Yes this is a joke!

We have several local processors here that will sell to individuals as others said.

Given what we've seen in 2020, not sure if that's an option this year.

We also have a couple local Amish stores that sell meats by the case.

It's worth a try...it's certainly better than going without.

I donate all the time. Last Mulie I shot in Nebraska I donated the entire carcass to the local homeless shelter. Normally, I don't but I shot him last day of rifle season and I didn't want to stay an extra few days to have him processed so I gave him away. Just not the cape and rack. Those will hang on my wall when I get them delivered which should be soon.

My wife and I process our own venison. I hang the animal on the tractor bucket and we get to work with a couple knives and a saw.

Skeets I have a VERY dim memory of my mother making mincemeat for mincemeat pies out of ground venison in which there was some kind of whiskey, and of course our Xmas fruitcake was well laced with something.

Mom used to make rum balls. She would soak the nuts in Captain Morgan spiced rum for about 4 hours.

She was in the process of making a batch and had to go some where. Well she had just stuck the nuts into the fridge in a sealed butter tub. She then promptly forgot about them for a week 😳😳😳

She was cleaning out the fridge, found the nuts that she had soaking. So....... instead of throwing them out, she makes a batch of rum balls then waits.........

later on that day my brother and I come back home, a couple friends stop by and we are hanging out. We get hungry, and start rummaging around for something to munch on and find those rum balls.

We start passing them out since all our friends like moms goodies. We go to bite into them and the vapors hit our noses and throats and we start coughing. 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 you had to let them sit out and breathe for a while before you could eat them.

Those babies would cure a cold 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
