Winter Additive For Diesel - for BX Users / All tractors In General

Hi everyone,
At what temp do you add a diesel additive ?
Is there a specific temp where it becomes a must ?

Maybe you add it, maybe you've discovered you don't need it. Would love to hear opinions etc.

I run home heating oil in the tractor.... pumped out of my garage furnace tank.
I add a bottle of treatment every time the garage tank gets filled (in the winter months)

Supposedly the newer low sulfur diesel fuel gels at a higher temperature than the old stuff did. I'll put in additive from my NAPA store when the temperatures start to dip below freezing. Do I need it? I don't know. I'll just call it insurance.

I use this regimen.

Left silver bottle summer, left white bottle winter.

The center biocide is used 12 months.

There’s many good alternatives. I use Power Service because I can get it easily.

I use power service products because they work as advertised. I have proof that the winter anti gel works because I was in Wisconsin when the temps got to -20 degrees F and lower. My truck started with absolutely no problems every time. That was enough to sell me on that particular product. I will not even try another product because I found what works every time, why try to fix something that is not broken? I start using the white bottle when temps get in the 30's.

I use Howe's. The low amount in summer, the high amount in winter. The techs at my dealer all swear by it as well.

After watching Project Farm's testing on his YouTube channel (I highly recommend subscribing to it if you haven't already), I have been using Hot Shot's Secret Diesel Winter Anti-Gel. I plan on using it from October- March here in the Northeast.

Kerosene will not harm a diesel engine. I have been using kerosene in diesel engines for 50 years and never had a problem.

It's not Kero, It's home heating oil.
exactly what it came from the dealer with.
RED offroad diesel /heating oil.

Red= no road taxes.

I have been using red home heating oil in my Kubota BX22 since new in 2004, along with the white Power Service year round. Never had a problem with home heating oil. Switched the home to propane last fall, and no more home heating oil, and had to buy road taxed fuel the last few fill times. Results are a clogged fuel filter, and a burned out fuel pump. My home heating oil never gave me trouble. Service station fuel is dirty so I have found out. I am going to find a 275 gallon tank, and have it filled with home heating oil, and go back to my old ways.
Off road not taxed diesel fuel in CT is dyed green.

If I could source offroad diesel and add anti-gel as needed, I would certainly go that route.

I use the Amsoil all in one in my truck year round and in my tractors during the winter. It has cetane boost, cold flow, anti-gel and injector cleaner all in one bottle.

I use Stabil Diesel All Season fuel treatment. Every five gallons going into the tank gets treatment. This will be the second winter season with my tractor and so far no issues with just over 200 hours on the tractor. Changed

My dad use to not treat his fuel in his Massey Fergusons, but ended up with algae in the tank. We ended up taking the tanks off both the 383 and 275 so the could be cleaned. Since then, he has started treating his tanks year around and we do a biocide treatment on his tractors early spring and mid-summer just to try to help reduce any issues of the algae reoccurring,

It is probably 20 years ago that I bought the off road diesel, when I had my bulldozer and a fueling tank in the rear of the pick up. Guess that they changed it since.
