Hi everyone, I’m new to the group. About 3 years ago I purchased my first tractor, it’s a Kubota L2550 and I believe it’s a 1991. Been learning a lot about it over these past years and this month I had a hydraulic line burst on me. No big deal I went and got a new one and replaced it but it happened while the tractor was running and I walked away from it and came back to discover a great big puddle of hydraulic fluid on the ground. So the problem I’m having is I don’t know how much fluid I need to put back in it. I found that the capacity is supposed to be 8.2 gallons but I don’t know how much fluid I lost. There is supposed to be a sight gauge according to the operating manual, however where the sight should be is a regular bolt and there is no dipstick either. Also should I fill hydraulic fluid from the rear or from the center under the cap? Thank you all in advance

If you are sure that is the correct port for the sight window you can resolve it two ways:
1) buy and install the sight window .
2) remove the bolt, pour fluid into fill port until it starts to run out the open port, then install the bolt.

It does not matter what fill port you use if they fill the same sump.

What transmission do you have? A Glide Shift has the sight window in a different location than the others.
I would be surprised if the window hole has a bolt in as it should not be threaded.
See the PDF below.

I found the same diagram online and in that location on my tractor there is no sight gauge. it looks like it is supposed to be there though. I suppose it’s possible the guy I bought the tractor from painted over it in an effort to obscure faded paint/rust...

Pop out the painted sight glass and replace it, there is no way to know the level otherwise!

UPDATE:
So I looked a little closer at where the sight glass was supposed to be and took a Dremel sander to it. Turns out it was just painted over at some point. I’ve still got a little sanding to do until it’s clearly visible, but at least I know now. Thank you to everyone who replied with advice.

I've the same problem on the same model. Can't find the sight glass. The previous owner had some welding done to her so just wondering if he's after plating over the site glass, without cutting out the hole. Would you be able to post another wider framed picture where it is so I know I'm looking in the right spot?

Many thanks

Stand on the left side, look at the back bottom of the steering column, now at the same spot just above the step should be a hole and the sight glass.

Thanks for the detailed reply Wolfman. I think I've got the right spot but I've nothing there (see attached circled in blue). I checked underneath the body to see what that raised box is covering but its not a sight glass (see attached circled in red)

I should mention there's a cab on her too. Not sure if that makes a difference - would some of the cab frame be hiding it? I would have thought it just sits on the original body though.

The two fill points have no dipsticks either.

Sorry about all the questions - as you can probably guess, this is my first one.

Appreciate the help

AWWW GST, the sight glass is further back, than a DT
I will get you an exact location and pics tomorrow.
As I have a L3450 GST Witch is virtually the same.
FYI: Your one pic with red circle is the shifter which is in front of the sight glass.

Thanks - I found it with your instructions (after cleaning all the debris lodged between the frame!). Right where you said it'd be (y). Attaching the photo for anyone in the same position.

Thanks again for your help.
