Okay, going way out on a limb with little info.

I'm buying a property that has a BX2200 with a 60" belly deck mower on it. The owner knows zero about it. The 'caretaker' says it runs and was able to demonstrate it starting up. That's all we had time for. It has a "hydraulic leak" in the rear end. I couldn't tell exactly where. It was dimly lit garage. I saw the cleansween under it where it had been dripping.

I have no idea of the age of the tractor. No idea of hours. attached are the only 2 pictures.

I know something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it. I need something to mow with and this has been used for that purpose on this property.

What might I offer for this tractor, knowing the risks and given the unknowns?

That seems to be a really nice machine from the pictures. When you get time, clean the oily area really well and see if you can find the leak. If you are going to need a mower, that one should be about as good as it gets. Leaks are usually easily fixed. If you can find the leak, repost an someone here can tell you what will be involved. With a little luck, it's minor.

I don't have it yet. We will need to come together on a price. I see 2003 vintage selling online in the $5k range. I'm thinking if I get it for $3K then if it needs some work I wont be under water.

I will need to put a small brush hog behind it for some trail maintenance as well as mowing maybe 6 hilly acres.

My guess is $3K would be a steal. My BX2200 was purchased new in 2004, so it could be younger or older than that...but its all about hours and physical condition, rather than age anyway.

I think a 60" mower deck cost about three thousand way back when, but could be a little high on that, but not by much...

BX2200 was only built from 2001 to 2003 - buy they do sit on dealer's lots and most people put the year when they are sold.

As for the leak, just make sure it's not coming from a crack in a casting!!!!

As mentioned - 3k would be a good price ..... however that leak could be a simple fix or a bad fix.
Until that is found - I would hesitate.

As for pricing - I find that telling someone what YOU wish to pay is a mistake ..... have them come up with a price and you move accordingly - if offered for 1.5k - jump. If 5.5k then at least you know where they stand.


The real question is "how is your conscience? IF you offered $800 .... what would they say?

My best guess is that the leak is coming from one or both of the hydraulic hoses that feed oil to the power steering. The BX2200 is an excellent tractor and will be a great asset on the acreage!

I just purchased a BX2200 that looks identical to the pics for $6000. It came with a FEL, 60" MMM, a set of AG tires, a set of turf tires and quite a few other spare parts. I feel I got a pretty good deal compared to other similar listings in my area. I almost had a pair of pallet forks too, but that got shot down by the seller since they would fit on their new tractor they had purchased. I use it for mowing and property maintenance on my 5 acres. Works great!! Since yours could be lumped in with the property and the owner may not have any use for it where they are going (or a place to store it), I would probably offer lower than I paid.

Mine also has a small leak/drip on the left hand side rear. I purchased a hydraulic pressure tester and will be doing that soon. I am hoping that I can find the leak while I am examining the relief valve which is located in that area. Or even better, maybe it is just the relief spring bolt that needs tightened slightly.

So the sellers realtor is the middlewoman between myself and the widow whos property I'm buying. I gave her a list of items I'm interested in and asked for prices. I should hopefully have some pricing by end of the week. If it doesn't pan out, I have a lead in a nice green tractor

The owners husband died 10 years ago. I'm buying their summer home, 40AC, house and 40x60 shop. She wants a fair price on the shop contents as to honor her late husbands legacy I assume. I don't want to rip off anyone. That said, I don't want a project either.

The little tractor will do most of want I anticipate needing a tractor for but not all. There is some trail/logging type roads that I want to maintain. I don't want to take a 60" belly deck up those roads and risk effing it up, a smaller brush hog would be more appropriate. I'm assuming that taking the mower on and off will be a bit of a chore.

If you do it on a flat smooth surface it isn't bad to remove and fairly quick. The worst part for me is pulling the deck out from under the mower after it is detached since I usually end up doing it in the yard. The deck is pretty heavy and the wheels don't roll that great on grass. Besides that it is simple and easy.

If you are going to be going through the woods without the MMM on quite a bit you may want to look at something like the BXpanded belly shield. It will keep you from destroying the hydro fan. I hear they are a real pain to replace.
