BX2380 problem at predelivery.

Trading down from a B2601 to a BX2380. Dealer called said it was ready for test and paperwork. Got on it and drove it around the lot. When I let off of the hydro pedal it just kept rolling, freewheeling, forward noticeable, in reverse it would be dangerous. Just kept rolling 20 feet on a flat surface until its momentum stopped. I showed the salesman He said they roll some 4-6 feet. Ive had KUBOTA hydrostatics since the mid 80’s. A B8200 for over 30 years and the B2601 for 3. They come to a controlled short stop always. It startled me in reverse, my wife and I mows grass and and this would tumble into a ditch easily if this happens. Seems there is possibly a Hydrostatic unit issue. I’ll walk away probably, I told the salesman its dangerous with it working like this and call me after service looks at it. I left with all my paperwork.

They bought it assembled from another dealer, it had 3.2 hours on it. I‘m wondering if this problem was known and just passed along, defective, to my dealer.

Take a picture of the serial # and walk away. Tell him to call you when they get another one.

I hate it when they try to make you feel like you know nothing.

The damn thing is not right fix it.

The hydrostat pedal neutral spring needs to be adjusted tighter is all. I am surprised neither dealer to care of it.

explaine please. When you back off of the pedal it returns to neutral but also seems to do more than that. The tractor feels like its being pulled to a stop. This unit just keeps rolling along like in neutral without the stopping force felt in my 8200 and 2601. Am I explaining it correctly?

It's been several years, but I remember seeing acceptable tolerance for "roll", and method to adjust it in my operator's or workshop manual.

Didn't have an issue;just vaguely recall seeing reference to it.

Comes outa the factory, goes through 2 service departments and with over 3 hours on a new tractor has a severe roll on issue that no one addressed and its an easy fix. Inquiring minds want to know why.

if it's the same or similar to my BX23s, there IS something wrong ! I don't care if it's a minor adjustment or needs a small part, it IS a big deal...yeesh 3hrs, TWO service departments and no one cares , let alone fix what should be an EASY fix !!
If you really, really want it, offer $2500 less than their 'best price', then settle for $2000 OFF. pretty sure someone here can tell you how to fix it

There are two adjustments for this. Kubota has a spec for forward roll from full pedal to release, if it doesn't stop in spec you have to keep making the adjustments. This is nothing earth shattering or new to refuse a machine.

I’ve thought about this since my first response, which was similar to whitetiger and B737.
For those that don’t know, whitetiger has forgotten more about Kubota tractors than most of us will ever know....not his first rodeo....
I personally see no reason to run, but that’s just me.
Trust me, I completely agree this is a huge safety issue if not rectified prior to delivery.
So many times recently we’ve seen PDI problems with new tractors. Many are easy fixes for a new owner.
This is a scenario where the tractor had not been delivered; the dealer allowed a pre-delivery test drive.
Fix it before delivery, everyone’s happy.
Just my thoughts....

Salesman called, said charge pump port needed adjusting. He has no clue. The forward roll after stop was more than I am use to, 8-10 feet, back up roll was unnerving, rolled like a skate board until loosing momentum. Would have easily gone off my drive and into a ditch. I had a B8200 hydro for 30 + years and 2000+ hrs that stopped dependably when releasing pedal within 6 feet or less. This tractor rolled 20 plus feet like nothing.

What does the stated repair mean, obviously something with the hydrostatic assembly. The pedal is not sticking, moves freely. Tractor just free wheels, glides to stop. like its rolling in neutral. Severely in reverse.

your complaint is pretty common on that tractor, especially new

kubota has done a pretty good job of trying to adjust to customer needs. One complaint not too long ago was that when you let off the pedal, it threw you over the steering wheel, so they adjusted to address that complaint. Now it takes TOO long for some folks to come to a stop. Trying to please everyone is challenging

as far as why it went out like that? It happens. Setup & PDI techs are paid pennies, well for that matter, most techs are too. The really really good techs get a decent paycheck but still lags behind in the industry overall. Dealer managers do everything they can to get/keep techs at the minimum cost. That is business. But they have to walk a fine line between of making them feel appreciated and running them off, so you can infer that some managers care about their help, others care more about their personal bonus or whatever they're caring about and a lot of times you see that in the appearance of the dealership and attitudes of the personnel

the setup & pdi guys are a dime a dozen (or that's what some managers seem to think). You get a good one, better hang onto him--they can move up to a full-blown tech and become a very good one if the manager chooses to allow them to. Generally speaking low wage, high turnover type job that carries as much stress and responsibility as a full blown repair tech.

It could also be something as simple as someone turning the key to the on position...forgetting, and leaving it there. If I remember right my BX2200 counts hours while the key is on, regardless if the engine is running or not. I assume the newer BX tractors are the same?

Still roled to stop after “fix” just glides more than 15 ft when letting off pedal. They’re gonna look for one unassembled and go from there.

They only clock hours when the engine is running.

I checked my workshop manual just to confirm I was not nuts, and I see my BX2200 hour meter is hooked in parallel with the fuel pump, so it runs when the key is in the on position...thought I was losing it for a moment!:)

Counting actual run time hours on the newer BXs is a positive change. Do they also count tach hours rather than engine running hours?

Guess I will have to tell my son in law I was in error assuming his new BX23S would count hours if he forgot and left his key in the on position somehow...

The operation changed when the dynamo was replaced with an alternator. Here is a page from the BX70 series WSM that explains the operation.

The dealer principle handled this contact, he knew it wasn’t gonna fly when I brought it back in the shop.
I asked why can“t they adjust this out, he just said they could look for a new crated unit and go from there.
Two shop preps and a repair and that unit rolls on, gliding to a stop. It has to be that unit. Can’t imagine people are buying these units with this.

sad thing is the KUBOTA techs at the KUBOTA dealer can't fix a KUBOTA tractor with a problem from the KUBOTA factory.......
don't really install a lot of confidence for when the hard problems come along...
