I'm thinking about purchasing a land leveler/planer. I was wondering what size would be best for the L2501. Is a 6' model too much? I have no experience using one and was hoping some of you can give me some advice.

When built it was used behind my JD750 MFWD (only 20 HP engine) and the tractor had no problems whatsoever pulling it in 2 wheel drive at a good clip on my gravel areas. Granted, I didn't add any scarifier capabilities to it. I can even add a heavy weight tray and weights to it and it still pulled easily.
If you were just maintaining a graveled area without scarifiers your tractor might easily pull a 6 ft model. If you were planning to dig deep through heavy roots, rocks, etc. with scarifiers set to max depth, then maybe not. Everybody's conditions are different. Unless you have a very large area to maintain the time savings between the two widths might be very minimal as you can operate at a pretty good speed.
Now it's used behind my B2650 and I couldn't imagine the B2650 not being able to handle a 6 footer. Especially if you actually engage the 4 wheel drive.
Good fabrication work there bird dogger. I plan to take the lazy approach and just buy one, maybe a Rural King model. I have a gravel drive and would also like to do some land smoothing in the yard and pasture. I have no problem with a 5 footer. However, I have a 69 hp John Deere that I thought I could use with it for the bigger work and was hoping the L2501 could do some smaller jobs with it. My logic being the 6 feet would cover the tracks of my larger tractor.
I also thought about just buying the 6 foot model and using it exclusively on the John Deere as it is just a 3 point hitch tractor all the time. With the L2501, I have to take off the backhoe and put the 3 point arms on. It is not that big a deal, but a big aggravating and time consuming.

My thinking is if you can use the implement to it's maximum capabilities 85% of the time and have to take smaller-lighter cuts-loads the other 15% of the time you would be fine. Normally I would recommend a 5 footer for that size tractor. But the actual weight of the implement should also be considered. I have a 5 footer that weighs 800lbs that I use behind my 32hp tractor that is similar in overall size to your L2501. But my tractor is heavy for it's size at just under 5000lbs.

I may buy a 6 footer and use it on my big tractor mostly. The Rural King model is 470 pounds.

See my thread in tractor Operating forum where I use an AG Armstrong 7' land plane that weighs over 800lb with my L2501. I Would buy a 6 footer if this one was not already available.
Well shoot, I just read your thread. That gives me much confidence in a 6 foot model. I've been impressed with the L2501 so far for everything I have done with it.
Would y'all recommend any particular brand. I was eyeballing a Rural King model. I think it is made by King Kutter. Would something like Land Pride be worth the extra price?
The L2501 will pull a 6 foot land plane with no problem. I bury a disc harrow that is 6' 6" (and over 700lbs) and my L2501 pulls it fine. I have zero issues pulling my 5 foot box blade, even with a full box load of dirt. Both of these are likely heavier pull oads than a land plane will ever be. Land Planes are fairly docile to pull given how they work. They don't build up tons of resistance like a box blade as they redeposit the dirt and gravel back onto the road.
