First Time Greasing Tractor

Reading manual and trying to identify location of all my grease fittings on my MX5400. The one question I have is if I am standing in front of the tractor, is the
Forward Front-Axle Support on left or right. Is there only one? It says you have to remove the breather plug. How is the breather plug removed?

If you are setting in the seat of the tractor, right is right, left is left. Therefore if you are standing in front of the tractor it would be the opposite.

The front axle support has a grease fitting. On the opposite side of the support is a plug (I think with a square head). Remove the plug BEFORE you apply grease to the fitting on the opposite side. The plug removed allows air/grease out to prevent injuring a seal. When grease comes out the plug hole you're full of grease.

You're welcome. It's pretty simple once you understand where and why. Just remove the plug and pump some grease (in the grease fitting on the opposite side) and reinstall the plug.

I'm just waiting around this morning of the guy to open so I can get a battery for my old 730 Case!!

The axle support is in the center. The grease nipple (zerk fitting) might be left OR right. It doesn’t matter. Grease it.

Got into operating engineers union. First thing we did was grease a backhoe. Thing most missed was the pivot point on front axle. Remember it 40 years later. Find the zerks they are important.

Greasing the pivot is important, but removing the plug is just as important, if not more so. If too much grease is pumped in without the plug removed one time you can cause the seal to fail. You fail to grease the fitting several times you only cause some wear on the shaft.

I find these helpful. Not so much to cover the zerk fitting, as most just hang open, but to easily identify all points to grease. I add them to my implements as well. May work well for you.

Cleaning the junk OFF the Zerk BEFORE adding grease is MORE important !!

otherwise 'bad stuff' gets in where it shouldn't be....

Bought a lincoln air powered grease gun with the lock type end on it. Made greasing so easy and no mess.
