Bush Hog 286 PTO shield

A couple of days ago I posted about a vibration problem with my bush hog. After posting a video it was (correctly) pointed out to me that I need a shield for my shaft.

I have searched the "inter web" for a couple of days now trying to find an exact fit PTO shield for my 286. Does anyone know which shield will fit this cutter? A part number, generic one or direct link to one that will fit?

You will probably not find the exact shield for your driveline. They are normally cut to fit. They're plastic so a hacksaw goes quickly. You do need to cut the same amount from each half of the shield just like sizing a PTO shaft.

Thanks Dave. Just called and they want $200.00 for the COVER. I might as well get a whole new shaft for about $290.00.

Shield or otherwise, your vibration is caused by something else.

I am surprised at the $.

In Canada in 2018 I paid $48 for the complete pto shield. Comer T50 series

Having a second identical shaft provides you with a backup. Less critical on a rotary cutter but necessary for my snowblower.

Make certain before you install that the length is correct. Lots of youtube video's on cutting pto's to length.

If you have not solved your vibration issue, I again suggest you remove the blades and see if the vibration disappears.
