Help guess weight of tractor/attachments

I have a L345DT with a great bend loader and an older woods 3pt backhoe attachment and the tires are loaded. Whats a close guess on weight? Im guessing 6000lbs?

Have to buy a new trailer and was considering a 10k GVWR with 7000lb cargo compacity or a 14k GVWR with 10500 cargo compacity.


I broke my trailer recently and it is a dual axle landscape trailer rated for 7000lb GVW . I know ive been a little overweight but it stops fine and didnt see any issues until i took off and noticed a bend in the trailer and upon inspection found broken frame.

I can see why a landscape trailer did not last. You need an equipment trailer, 10,000 or 14,000 lbs rating should work. I see only $600 difference in a new trailer in my area between the two capacities of trailers. The other issue is what are you towing with? I’ve had several PJ equipment trailers, always purchased 14k gvwr, they have nice full chain down rails.

I thought I could get away with it for the 2 times per year I transport the tractor and I would detach the bucket and put it into back of truck to shave a little weight and space. Trailer I have is a 7x16ft

My trucks are an F350 with the 6.7 Diesel and an F250 with the V-10 so both capable hauling trucks. Im leaning toward the 14K and the price difference for a Rice make trailer at my local dealer is about $400 so pretty insignificant.

For $400 I would go bigger. Bigger is better! From experience check the new trailer careful before you sign on the dotted line. Check all the welds. Check the bed to make sure it is square by measuring the diagonals. Check to make sure the axles are centered and square to the frame. Pull it down the road with some one behind you to insure the trailer pulls square to the truck. Double check the wiring and make sure it is routed correctly. Get 14 ply tires for the trailer even if they say the 10 ply will work. Check the weight ratings on the rims and insure they are stronger then the tires.

You would think something as simple as a trailer would be built correctly but there are often major problems that will go uncorrected.

Will the ramps slide together so that you could load a z-turn or small tractor? On my trailer with narrow ramps it was very difficult to bring the ramps together. I bought the mega or monster ramps on the next trailer which get two thumbs up for loading ease.

That looks like a very nice trailer, 14k always sell easier in my opinion, you are well set with your pulling truck, you will not know you have the tractor on the back!
My latest trailer is an equipment tilt trailer, a gooseneck, I tow my tractors, track loader and excavator up to 10k load behind a 3500 GMC diesel. Tilt is very nice for easy load on and off.

don't know where you're at and how your locals treat trailers, but here, they're nailing folks that are pulling over 10K lb that don't have a cdl. Yeah I know you're not supposed to need one unless you're 26K+ but the place I work for and several others (drag racers) have been stopped for a tail light out or running light or whatever, then all they did was look at the GVWR. If GVWR of the trailer is 10K or more, CDL required, instant set of tickets. IMO they're looking for income, and getting it. My boss and one of my friends fought it in court and lost. Way I understand it, it doesn't matter how much it actually weighs, it matters what the GVWR is. In our (work) case, we were somewhere south of 9000 lbs total weight including the trailer; however with a GVWR of 16K, and a truck (dually) having more than GVWR of 10k, they got us with several citations. No med card no cdl, etc etc.

I felt it worth mentioning.

If your locals are doing the same thing, look into a trailer with a 9999lb GVWR, or have the manufacturer change it to something under 10K. They can do it.

Add in another 550lbs if the box blade is on there.

Please the trailer weight is 2,840lbs.

So we ended up with a 12,000lbs trailer with brakes on both axles to meet the need.

I was surprised by the weight when I started calculating it out.

You need to check your state laws. I run a commercial truck <26,000, 11,400 on the truck and 14,500 on the trailer. I have no CDL and I have been pulled over by the DOT several times without a ticket.

In some states it could be a problem but most if it is non commercial you should be OK. You may need to put a "Not for Hire" sign on the truck.

An L345 with FEL, and backhoe should be near 6k but filled 13.6x28 tires add another 750 lb - so closer to 7k.

As far as local laws regarding the 14k trailer vs the 10K to be in some sort of compliance the trailer people say no but the law reads like it says yes on needing a CDL over 10k trailer.

Ill risk it just like I had to when getting a haircut a month ago.

Bought a new trailer, should haul my equipment with room and weight to spare. I ended up getting a 7x20 14Kgvwr trailer made by Rice. Its pretty nice has a built in chain box, real heavy duty tongue jack, heavier duty spring assist ramps, powder coated etc.
