Hello,

Just bought a rotary cutter to mow our 15 acres. I have a L2501 with the Kubota Telescopic Stabilizer Kit instead of the turn buckles. Being new to rotary cutters, what's the recommended amount of side to side movement of the mower. I believe Messick's recommends (from their video on the stabilizer kit) using the oblong holes on the stabilizer which give about an inch or so of lateral movement. I couldn't find anything definitive in the manual, so thought I reach out to the forum for help.

Thanks in advance for guidance

I run my cutter with a few inches of lateral movement but I'm not nit picky about the cut quality...it's not a lawn so I don't really give a rip. You want a little slop in the setup for when you nudge a tree or fencepost, etc..

Did you check out the amount of movement in the top link? Are you in the hills? Some people do not use the top link to prevent getting hung up when you cross a ditch or dip where the front tires and the tail wheel take to much weight off the drive wheels.

Thanks guys. It has a floating top link that the manual says is used for ditch crossings. Will see how it works today if time permits.

I generally minimize lateral movement of my rotary cutters but one cannot remove it all with the telescoping stabilizers.

The 5' cutter on my B3350 has around 3"-4" of side to side movement at the tail wheel. The 6' cutter on my L6060, perhaps a trace more.

I have the same setup as your, just much older... I do not run with the top link attached (too many areas that it bounded up). I do keep mine somewhat tight and I have sheared the bolt that attaches the stabilizer to the ROPS. I think I'm up to 3 times, :p last time was with Land Pride mower. So, you can have them too tight!!! I'll have to try the slots next time I mow... Thanks!
