Bx23 rear tire has a leak on the bead. I didn't realize it in the snow and all the saline fluid leaked out.

I could try sanding the inside of the rim (wire brush, etc), or, maybe do a tube, but can you put fluid in the tire with a tube? Also, what do people generally do for replacement saline?

WWOOAAHHH - A tire should have a TUBE in it to contain the saline.

Using saline without a tube is a SURE way to rust thru the bead. (and eventually the entire wheel.)

If you choose to NOT use a tube. The bead can be resealed by wire-wheeling the sealing surface and using some kind of bead-sealing goop.

Then, you can use one of the many alternatives to saline which will not eat away at the inside of the steel wheel.

So I bought this directly from the dealer back in 2003. I won't say which one cause he's my brother in law (and not close by). I can get a tube but what alternatives to saline would you recommend and what's the procedure for filling a tube with it?

Rim Guard is used to fill tires but it is expensive. Anti-freeze will work also. If you look on you tube there are several different ways to fill a tire. Take a look and use the one you like the best.

Are you sure he put saline in the tire? If so he needs to sit at the kiddies table next Thanksgiving. Could the salt you are seeing be from the drive or sidewalk?

Yet another reason to avoid liquid ballast.

That said, as previously mentioned by others, one should never install any liquid ballast into any tire wheel combination without a tube.

Yes, I am well aware than many (most?) yuppie owners do this, but my 50+ years of experience advises otherwise.

The tire says 26 x12 but it measures more like 24 x12. Any guesstimates how much fluid I might need?

Be sure to remove tire off rim !!! Remove valve and throw away. Wash both 4,5,10 times..whatever it takes to remove 100% of the salt. Do the lick test.Touch finger to tongue, then wipe on rim, now taste your finger. Do this several times, both tire and rim. ANY salty taste...clean rim and tire again.....
I know, others will say I'm nut BUT I've lost 100s of $ worth of PA rims due to salt.

Like GreensvilleJay said wash the rim and tire with soap and water but also wash it with baking soda and water.

As I mentioned, this was done by the dealer. But I think a tube makes sense.
The dealer cares about profit.

The dealer cares little or nothing about the long term reliability of your equipment.
