Any L200 owners willing to help me out? (All help from anyone is appreciated)...........

I am new to OTT and have just bought a L200. I can't find anything on the Net about this one. It has 2 sets of headlamps....1 set on the fenders and another set on the hood like a L210..... Only 1100 hrs............ Tags are in English....... Sheet-metal is straight...... Has a crappy repaint that is flaking (No problem).... Tires are checking but have great tread....... Looks to have modern solid rims....
Is it possible KUBOTA marketed this little animal?.........

It will turn over, but will not start........ Previous owner said that it stopped running while cutting grass while going downhill..... I noticed the de-compression cable is not hooked up, it is just hanging down...... I took a chance and bought it for $1200 delivered, along with a 4' King Kutter finish mower.....

Any Diesel gurus out there that can walk me through (How to get this little jewel running again)?....

Thank you in advance......... DCS ........ Alabama...

Glad I found this place.........

I imagine that it might have been low on diesel and suck some air in and now has air in the system and won't let the injectors pops.

You just need to crack the lines on top of each injector and set the throttle to high and crank it till you get good bubble free fuel to the injectors.

L200's were made for the US, It was one of the first Models introduced here.

Go to Kubotabooks.com and download the L210 WSM, it will help you out a little with some details.

DCS - Welcome to OTT!

I may be speaking out of school, but due to your tractor model's vintage and an early entry into the US market (1970-ish), it may have some collector value. Guessing not a lot of $$, but there probably aren't a lot of survivors. (Lower #'s = Higher $'s:))

While 12 years old, here's a decent discussion about L200's on another forum.

https://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/kubota-owning-operating/124515-kubota-l200-good-restore-2.html

Tractordata.com isn't 100% reliable, but for the amount of data they have, they're pretty darned good. Guessing very little data because there aren't a lot of them:

Depending on how long the tractor has been setting, you might be well off to drain any fuel from the tank and start with fresh fuel. You can follow the fuel line to the fuel filter and be sure fuel comes out there freely, then a new fuel filter, and follow the line to the injection pump. That's when you should follow North Idaho Wolfman's lead. If the fuel is only a couple of months old what I suggested may not be necessary.

DCS - my apologies for the non-response to your question. I just got tangled up with the model.

NIW and 'Cat are a lot smarter than I am. The only thing I would add to their wise advice is to determine the orientation of the compression release.

You said cable is just hanging, but is it under compression, or not? That is designed to help turn it over on cold starts, but could also hinder firing/running.

I have no experience with them or how they're operated, but others do. Just caught my attention in your post.

Whatever you do, don't use ether/starting fluid to "help" it fire!!! That can/will cause more major problems than it fixes....

I have a L185 which I believe is very similar.

I had trouble with the fuel tank being rusted on the inside and the fuel outlet would get clogged and the tractor ran out of fuel.

So I suggest you locate the fuel filter probably a spin on filter on the right side near your foot if sitting on the seat. There should be an inlet line that can be easily removed to see if you have good flow into the filter. If you don’t have good flow there then you need to determine why. On the left side at the bottom of the tank is a petcock where you can turn off the flow of fuel. Make sure you have that turned on. I recall that it screws in and out like a normal screw so unscrew it until it hits the stop.

I had to clean my tank out and then coat the inside with epoxy since it was rusted so bad that holes appeared during the cleaning process.

If the decompression is a cable like a choke cable, it should attach to a lever at the front of the engine near the valve cover. Make sure that freely moves and is all the way to the left (if you were sitting in the seat left). Pulling the knob out is decompression and pushing it in is running position. Don’t use it to stop the engine except for an emergency.

The kill lever is on the right side near where the hand throttle pivots at the bottom. It is flat bar with a finger notch that you pull up on to kill the engine after putting the throttle back to idle.

If you need the operator manual I can email it to you. I think it covers the L200 also but don’t have access to it right now.

Thanks everyone,

I played around with the L200 today........ Seems that with the de-compression lever down it is compressed and up it is de-compressed...(Cable is still not hooked up)......... Still could not get it to start........... Turns over but will not start...... Faint white smoke out of the stack....

WOLFMAN... What and how do I do this....(crack the lines on top of each injector).... I am not a diesel mechanic... I can hardly work on a gas burner....

R. KING... I would really appreciate an owners manual.... Would probably make a world of difference in operating this little L200....

Serial#... 18422H ...
Engine... Z1100... 65.3 cu. in... 21hp....
PTO.... 990 and 650....

Will post some L200 porn soon...

Thanks from Alabama.........DCS

You need to go download the L210 WSM (aka service manual) from Kubotabooks.com

Here is where you crack the lines on each injector:

Re: My (New to me L200 KUBOTA)... I Need Help... and THANKS

Thanks WOLFMAN...... I googled cracking the lines to injectors...(YouTube)....... Seems simple enough...... Do I crack them simultaneously or one at a time?...... Do I need to bleed off the top of the fuel filter canister first?..... Should I turn the engine over de-compressed or compressed while purging the air out of the lines?........... On one video I watched, a guy sprayed a mist of diesel fuel into the air intake... Is that OK?........

There is a tractor salvage yard in Decatur, AL and another in Cullman, AL....... Both of them are less than 40 miles from me..... What parts should I collect for further maintenance/repair?.......... My little L200 has turf tires...... I was thinking about snagging a set of AG tires and wheels if they are reasonably priced....... Also wheel weights if they have them...... I've got a crummy Chevy steering wheel cover on mine that came with it...... First on my list is a better steering wheel unless you know where to buy a new one for cheap (I try to be as frugal as I can at my old age)...... Was also thinking about collecting glow plugs and injectors just in case they become obsolete.....

My project for now....(1) Get the L200 purring like a kitten... (2) Fix a repaint some sheet metal... (3) Make sure all lights etc. are in working order... (4) Add some goodies... ???... (5) Have fun with it... Any suggestions from anyone???

I tried to upload pictures, but I think my files are too large... I am not a mechanic or a computer guru either... (I could use some help with that also)... I can't seem to find pictures of another L200 with lights in the fenders and on the front of the hood.... Could this be an early production L210???...

Thanks again for everyone's help.......DCS from ALABAMA........

Thanks WOLFMAN....
I watched some videos on cracking the injector lines.... Looks simple enough on the L200 that I might be able to handle it...... Should I purge the fuel filter canister before bleeding the injector lines?....... Should the engine be decompressed while doing this and then compress the engine after the air is bled out to crank it over?...... Should I crack the lines simultaneous or one at a time?...........

Thanks again.......... DCS from ALABAMA.........

What parts should I be trying to hoard?....... I have found two tractor salvage yards within 40 miles of my house....... My little L200 has turf tires and I'm thinking of buying a set of AG tires and wheels if the price is reasonable..... Wheel weights etc. would be a plus if they have them........ A new steering wheel would be nice..... (Anyone know where to get a new one cheap?).....

I'm thinking glow plugs, injectors and gauges would be a good thing to stock up on as parts are getting scarce........ Anyone have suggestions of wear and tear items that I should be on the lookout for?........

Thanks from ALABAMA....... DCS..........

OK.......... I cracked the injector lines...... Bled off the fuel filter..... My little L200 will not crank........... It turns over, blows a faint white/gray smoke but will not crank........ Did I miss anything or should I keep on trying to purge air out of the system....... I don't want to burn up the starter..........

Thanks from ALABAMA.......... DCS ..........

Lets clear something up real fast, to "Crank" mean to turn, your motor is cranking it's just no firing, HUGE difference.

Did you get clean / bubble free diesel out of the injector lines in pulses?

If you did then you have an injector or compression issue.

If you didn't, you need to work back through the fuel system and find out if the injection pump for one does not have the stop rod or linkage engaged, and that the fuel injection pump is getting plenty of unrestricted fuel.

Wait 15-20 seconds between attempts to start the engine, and your started will last longer. Also, be sure to have the throttle full on, you need all the fuel possible.

Put your hand directly on the starter motor. If you can’t keep your hand on it continuously... it’s too hot to use. Let it cool off for 20-30 mins.

Never operate a starter longer than 20-30 secs per attempt. IMO

Wolfman........... You are correct......... It is cranking but not firing.... I think it still had bubbles.......... Could be the injection pump???...... Is there a way to bleed air out of it???......... (I am not a diesel mechanic)...... Is it the box after the fuel filter and before the Injectors???........

Thanks from ALABAMA.......... DCS .........

You can check Service Dept Vic's videos ( which are excellent) and see if that helps.

The l200 and 210 models are different than most models, on most older models there was a valve (called a jet start valve) on the input line to the injection pump and you would bleed off air there, if it doesn't have the valve, just crack the input line on the injection pump till straight fuel come out of the line.
