M7040 vs M7060

Looking at a bunch of these and confused if one is better than the other. These are about 2012-2015 tractors in the 1000-2000 hour range. Are there any suggestions or concerns, advice out there? Will use to run a transplanter and a spader mostly.

To me it's no contest M7040 hands down...no emissions!

With the problems of the emissions systems it would seam to be a better to buy the M7040. It should retain its value better if you need to sell it. Looking at the cost on Tractorhouse and Machinery Pete the M7040 costs are about the same as the newer M7060. Thus the M7040 are retaining their value better.

I am constantly amazed at how many 7040's and 7060's come up for sale on Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist and Tractorhouse. At times it's made me wonder if there's some problem with them. But yet, everyone who has them seems to love 'em. Strange.

Anyway, for the reasons mentioned already, 7040 sounds like the winner.

I think is because it's really popular tractor that kubota sold . I have a m7040 one thing i might like better on the m7060 would be the 12 speed . But that's about it .

Some of the newer units have up to 24-24. Way too many gears for my needs.

For my purposes a 6 speed synchronized main transmission with H and L ranges is a significant improvement over a 4X2. The extra 2 gears in the synchronized main transmission significantly reduces the need to stop and change ranges in the crash box.

I once owned a NH T4050 Deluxe with 16 speed, 4 range X 4 speed synchronized main, and much prefer the 6X2 in my M9960. Too much need to stop and change ranges with only 4 speeds synchronized and no PS.

So 7040 it is thanks. So do I worry about the SU designation. Some posts are clear it is an SU. Others for sale don't mention it and you only see it if you look at the pics closely. Why are they hiding it? IS the HD worth it? Seems by the costs it is worth more. And if it is a 7040 with nothing it is assumed it is a 7040D? For background we will be using it for two main things, to carry the transplanter, and to use a spader. Thanks yall.

If you want full use out of it, then yes a DT or HD is a much better version than the SU version!
A DT does not shift as nicely as the HD.


As you can see there are 20 different versions of the M7040.

If there is a question on the model, get the serial number of the tractor and send me that in a message and I can probably tell you the exact version .

The SU models are an economy version and are not the same as the normal M7040. It is an ECONOMY version. If you were to see them side by side,the differences would be very clear. ;)

I do know one thing from personal experience. If I was going to buy one, it would have to have to have an 'H' prefix after the model number no matter what it was.

Very hard to beat a hydraulic shuttle. Less parts to replace over the long haul. Might be more complex but no dry clutch for me is a big selling point.

One more question. I need 48” inside to inside of my tires. Is this possible. I just talked to someone who said you can not make the tires go that wide. Is there a way to do this?

I'd have to look up specs on rim adjustments for 48"?

Total usable hours all depends on how it was maintained and taken care of, yea you'll probably end up with a better tractor if it has low hours but not always the case.
