I now have 600 hrs on my kubota mx5100 and by looking at the sight glass the trans fluid looks clear to me. So is it time for a fluid change or do I just keep driving it ? Also do I have more than one filter on it? Will any UTF work? I know from what i have read on here no 303 type. Thanks all

Think I'd use SUDT if it is readily available. Myself, I use Chevron Synthetic THF but it's not readily available everywhere. One thing I like about the Chevron is it't orange of all things. Much easier to see than SUDT or UDT for that matter.

What does your owners manual say about change intervals and filter replacement?

Not all UTF's are created the same., there are some good replacements for UDT, like Mystik JT-5 among others.

But I'll tell you this, if the fluid is under $60 or so dollars a 5 gallon jug, leave it at the store, there are a lot of fluids that are 303 knock offs like 345 HD fluid.

Specs say 11.6 gallons, it will vary a little, as the system never give up 100% of whats in it. ;)

I agree, price is the best comparison. Actually, the Chevron is almost the same price per gallon as the SUDT is. I like it better because it's orange and easier to see but like I said, not readily available everywhere. Just so happens my jobber is a Chevron distributor. Having said that however, I would stick with SUDT in a hydrostat tractor, no exceptions and of course, Kubota filters.

Thanks I saw the 11.6 Gal and thought, how in the world could it be that much? But thanks for clearing that up for me Wolf.
Not much difference capacity wise with the gearcases / transmissions on a 2wd or 4wd gear box. The FWA unit is separate.

heck, my 2 speed pto gear drive M9cab holds just under 14 gallons and my open station single speed pto M holds 12 gallons. Lot of drain oil when I dump them both. Glad I have a waste oil furnace in the shop.

Even though the fluid may look good the additive package does break down over time. Changing it is cheap insurance for a long happy life. No more often than it needs changing spend the money on quality fluid. Going cheap here isn't going to save anything in the long run. I personally use Amsoil in mine.

Hi. I spent 37 years in the business as a factory rep, and I agree with those who suggest that you use a full temp range synthetic hyd oil.
I saw too many problems with machines that used cheap oil and cheap filters for engine and hyd. Just don't do that to your self and your machine.

And don't forget to change antifreeze, I never go more than 2 years on antifreeze. You will get pitting and build-up of material deposits in the cooling system.

There are al kinds of youtube vids that can help you walk through the process.
The costs of repairs and parts are very high compared to maintenance costs.
