Dethatcher

I have a big yard rehab project coming up in the spring due to die off of my bluegrass this year.

I have searched for the last few weeks trying to find a good 3 point dethatcher to help with this.

Couldn't find anything worth a hoot so I had to raid my steel stash. Spent the last few evenings on this...hope it works.

I have a CMP de-thatcher that I pull with my B7100 , de-thatching lawns but also working up piles of pine needles.

Yours is very well built.

Ken, I found the CMP unit on the internet and was interested but, if you go to their website, it says "unavailable" and something about looking for new distributor or something like that.

I experimented with dethatchers a few years back. I found I needed 4 rows with all the tines staggered to actually gather up the material. I ended up using the pick up teeth from a baler. Works perfect because they are staggered already and 6' wide.

Highly technical paint process...brushed on and backrolled with a 4 inch roller.. Too cold now for me to spray in my CARB compliant spray booth (AKA sawhorses behind the barn).

Used Magic brand "Kubota Orange" from Rural King. If you use the gray primer, color is dead on.

Yes, very nice work! No reason to believe it would not work. Weight can be an issue with dethatchers. Most of them are too light and require additional weight. Yours looks heavy enough on its own

Yooper, thanks. According to my deer scale, it weighs 186 pounds. I figure if it hops too much I'll put some more weight on it.

raceman712, I lucked out with the tines. My farmer who farms my land has two big boxes of them and told me to take what I needed. They are baler teeth that he thinks were for a Case/IH baler that he sold years ago.

A number of years ago I built a similar rake. It was 3 rows of staggered bailer pick up teeth on a frame that bolted under a universal chisel plow, cultivator frame.

It was made so that it could be reversed, and if I ever got around to building a front mount cat 1, 3pt lift it could be used there ahead of the mower deck.
