Looked at a blower today that will auction tomorrow. Looked to be in solid shape, everything rotated as it should. The chute was manual and cable operated.

My questions are: only half of the pto shaft was present. Knuckle and square tube from blower.

1. How does one determine what I need to buy for tractor side?

2. If length is correct, can I use pto workings from my finish mower or brush hog?

Thanks in advance,
Jeff

If it at a reputable auction chances are they have the shaft and will give it to the buyer. Those things have a habit of going missing at auctions so they have to take precautions. Maybe ask at the office or one of the employees.

Other equipment had the whole shafts, so I'm thinking it is missing.

If you are lucky one of your other implement PTO shafts will be the right length and have the right ends and will work with a simple swap.

If not...

Take the implement side of the PTO shaft off. Hook up the implement to your tractor and measure the distance between the shaft ends in the lower and upper 3PH positions. Take the PTO half to any tractor dealer.

The dealer should be able to make up the parts for the tractor side. You will probably have to cut the tractor side PTO tube to fit. If the implement side is too short you will need to buy both tubes.

You may get lucky and find a complete new PTO assembly for about the same price. At one time PTO shafts were cheap and freely available at TSC, but they are now gold plated and made of Chinese unobtainium.

Ive had good luck with the euro made PTO parts, they are well made with interchangeable parts. All the Chinese stuff Ive used is mystery metal one-off junk.

Just like top links on used tractors. Most dealers / auctions pull them so they don't 'vanish'.

Jeff - wondering if I looked at that snowblower this morning in Whitney Point?
I think one had part of the shaft missing....all 3 there looked in good shape.
If so, I won’t be bidding against you, I left long before that stuff sold!
If Jeff was at the same auction, it’s a very large consignment sale. The shaft was either stolen before the sale, or the consignor brought it without, since it worked on something else he had.
Thinking probably the latter; these auctioneers run a couple huge consignment sales each year, and do them very well.
I bought a coffee...[emoji15]

So did the OP purchase the snowblower?
