Thinking about possibly upgrading my BX1850 to a 2670 or 2680.......... IF it would handle a 4' rotary cutter. Do the 26's have the PTO grunt for it ??

I'm not concerned with the weight, so much, as I run 180 lbs (beet juice & iron) on each rear wheel of my 1850 and chains . Would do the same with a 26.

I run a 48" Woods on my 2380 with no issues, could probably take a 54", but I choose the 48" for narrow trail mowing.

You should be fine.

Should be fine so long as your mower is not a super HD model weighing too much.

I have BX2350 and run a Land Pride 42" rotary cutter, it is a beast (by residential standards). I have the shear pin version which was difficult to find, most people seem to stock slip clutches

The RCR1242 can do in 4 hours what used to take me 3 days with a walk behind Brush Hog over 2 acres.

If you keep the FEL attached the entire tractor is about 18 feet long, I remove the FEL and use 4x42 pound John deere weights and hang them off the front frame, and like yours the rear tires are also ballasted.

I have a land pride 48" mower on my bx 2380. No issues for power at all but you will want to run weight in the front such as your loader or add on weights to keep the front end stable.

Appreciate the info,.fellers !!

Where I will be mowing is pretty darned steep. So the FEL will be off. But only because of turning at the bottom to go back up. No problems hanging some front weight.

I run a Bush Hog brand Squealer 42" on a B7300 which doesn't have the horsepower my BX22 has and it handles it just fine.

Yes, but not well.

You will be HP limited in moderate/heavy cover.

Again, you will need front weights on anything but flat ground.

Weighted rear tires won't help keep the front on the ground. You will definantly need some weight on the front.
Yes. Front end weight will be a given.

The weighted rears (and chains) are just every day trim.

The operator's manual for the BX 1850 rates it as able to handle a 4 foot rotary cutter. I have actually used a 5 foot L&S brush cutter on my BX 1850 with good results. Since the tractor has hydro drive, you can adjust speed to fit the mowing job.

That said, don't expect to go blowing through 5 foot sedge in high gear.

Most of.the usage will be between rows of Christmas trees. So there's really never any REAL heavy cutting there. Other than that...... I have some woods roads to maintain and a pretty lousy steep hillside of briar, goldenrod and timothy to keep at bay. Not more than 6-8 acres of that.

More than enough HP. Front weight for sure and don't raise mower when going up hill to be safe.

OK, thinking out loud here...
why not BUY the cutter now , try it out.
if your 18 is lacking power or stability THEN buy a bigger tractor ?
You need the cutter anyway......

Probably do a 54 or even a 60 rotary mower if cutting is lighter duty with the 26. Cut you mowing time down unless you really enjoy mowing.
