Thanks for posting! And thanks for admitting you had to read the manual to figure it out. Used to be a time when you really did not need one of them...

Friend of mine who is a crane driver has the same problem. Retired 3 years ago but he has never been so busy. He keeps getting called to jobs because the young lads can't work the cranes in delicate situations or don't have enough certification.

Wow. If I see this right from Ireland. Pretty amazing. Thanks for reading. It is the same here for certified crane operators. In short supply. The union hall keeps calling a friend of mine who has been retired for several years wanting him to go out due to the fact that not enough young people are taking it up.

Thanks for thinking of us. Really enjoyed reading about it and others' comments too.

Glad you enjoyed it. I am assuming NZ is New Zealand. If so, one of my dreams is to come there and hunt Red Stag. That would be something!!

Hey Yooper!! Good to hear from you. Hope all is well for you. Technology is definitely moving faster than us anymore for sure. I do at least still try to learn instead of pretending to know. Hell, I am happy anymore to just be able to read and comprehend most of it!!

Havent seen any projects from you lately. Do you have anything coming up? Miss seeing your projects.

I have been going to update my pond project for several months now, but just have been busy. Quiet rain day today so thought I would update with some pics. Where we put the pond was a ravine, natural waterway. Just had to dam up three sides. We got a dry spell, so hit it hard to get the dam in on the lower end in case we got alot of rain. To get the dam in, I had my buddy I started operating with 4o yrs ago give me a hand for a week. I would push up with the D6T, and he would put lifts in with a John Deere 650, and compact with a Cat 563 sheepsfoot. It went really well. The clay was perfect for a dam.

We actually got the majority of the dam in a long week, which I never thought we could do in a week, but thats how much dirt that D6T would push. Amazing! What a horse that machine was. You could push 7-8 cubic yards when pushing in a slot. The pond ended up being 1 acre, and 14 ft deep on the deep end and 10-11 on the shallow end.

Even with a machine this size the ground can be pretty hard, so it is nice to have a ripper. That sure took care of the problem!

Here are some more pics of putting in the dam, and grading up the sides. I kept the sides as steep as I could running sideways on the slopes which is right around a 2 to 1 slope. Any steeper and you will just slide down the slope.

Here are a couple of pics showing the depth of the pond. The dozer is 10 ft tall.

That looks a lot bigger then 1 acre. Do you have any finished pictures? I have got to think that was both fun and exhausting. You got to love it when a plan comes together.

Here are some pics of finishing things up. We had to tie in 3 storm sewers in to a 24" pipe which dumps in to the pond. We also put in a concrete spill way for it and on on the outlet pipe. After sub grading everything up, spread topsoil back over everything to make a yard and plant grass.

Here is a pic showing the slope reading in the machine I had showed before. Here I was sitting on the slope blade headed down to illustrate the reading. As I said, I could run sideways at 43-44 degrees, and stay up on the slope, which is really good, any more than that it would slide down the hill. That is alot fun!!
