Disappointed in Messicks

I’ve bought several things from them without complaint.

Went to order a seal for my bushhog today, and they wanted $15.39 to ship it. I presume that includes dinner, flowers, a box of chocolates and a movie.

Just a little shopping around and you can find the seal cheaper and with free shipping. Nothing ticks me off like a company trying to screw people on shipping.

They never seem to include lube.

Free shipping is never free. You pay for it, somewhere. If the price is also lower, chances are you are buying and inferior product. It's simple economics. NOTHING is free.

It's awful coincidental, and it seems fishy. Pardon me, jk, if it seems like I'm accusing you of something- I'm referring to the broader observation, not your particular post.

Free shipping is never free. You pay for it, somewhere. If the price is also lower, chances are you are buying and inferior product. It's simple economics. NOTHING is free.

I think the last one was about Colemans.

A big company, when processing a web order, has a minimum box they use. Even when you or I would stick in an envelope and mail it it for $3, that box costs $15. Such is life.
I accumulate stuff at Amazon, some that I need now, gets ordered with a few other items that I want but no rush to get to make the shipping 'free'. In the mean time, I add odds and ends to my 'save for later' list and use it to fill out an order.
Thing about stull like seals. A dealer may not stock it. A bearign and seal place, might have a same part number part. But you still have to take the time (and gas) to go there, pick it up and drive home. a 15 mile each way trip along with my time, that $15 shipping charge somewhat evaporates.

I'm curious if you actually called them to order or discuss this?

Sometimes the automatic shipping calculators can't/don't accounts well for small lightweight parts.

A USPS Small flat rate box is $7.90 anywhere in the Con US. Up to 20 pounds and has tracking too. I think personally that $15.39 is a rip off.

Only take s a minute for some flunky to make up a USPS flat rate box. generate a label and put it in the mailbox. I use Stamps.com, easy peasy.

Shipping is never free. It's either built into the cost pf the parts and an additional charge. I ship worldwide and I always quote your ship cost up front.

Messicks and some other online retailers need to quit screwing people. Just not good business and why I deal with my local dealer. I learned too when Messicks sent me the wrong hydraulic suction filters. I traded the at my dealer for the correct ones which was nice of them and good for me.

OP, did you find your part in stock elsewhere, what was the bottom line difference, shipped?
I have ordered larger items from Messick's and found the shipping to be normal as expected. Messick's shipping was fast, secure and well tracked.
A call to them may have helped to adjust that rate for the shipping of a seal/gasket.

Try Colemans. Their shipping is cheaper for me.

Maybe eBay if you can find the OE part priced lower with (dare I say) free shipping.

The perpetual zero percent financing that Kubota offers. Has to be something hidden in there somewhere...

Was talking to my dealer (the owner)the other day and I told him I wasn't going to buy the new rake (Kubota trailer rotary) until fall and said will it still be zero percent financing. He laughed and said it's been zero percent financing forever...

I wonder if the other manufacturers off zero percent, I've never checked.

Every single dealer is facing the same increases; particular in the freight/shipping departments. Could be why Messick's is showing an increase in shipping too.

I've lost quite a few sales in the last year due to ever increasing shipping costs. Why I do my shipping on an individual per order basis, not a blanket rate. Shipping across the pond is insanely expensive. I have a distributor in Geneva, Switzerland that I send bulk shipments too. it's easier for him to handle the EU market from there as well as the oriental market. I sell a lot of parts to the Japanese. The like motorcycle fru-fru. Even sent stuff to Dubai, UAE. The paperwork, especially the customs forms are tedious and everything has to be just right. I do Oz direct from here. Interestingly, I can get a better delivery time to Oz than I can to Canada.

I'm sure it is made up for in the price of the tractor and implements. Walk in with cash and most likely the same financed purchase would be significantly less.

Kubota offering Zero percent financing is a good marketing tool and my guess has helped them get sales that they might not of gotten. Once they get you into their tractor, most likely you will use their dealerships and parts, so they can make up some of the money. In addition, once they get you hooked on their tractors, my guess is that you are more likely to come back and buy your next tractor from them.

Although, I'm not a marketing expert.

I have the same freight problems.. not w/ Messicks but w/ my inj. pump parts distributor..
Doesn't matter what I order.. a pk. of 10 small oring.. 25.00 frt.!!!
I tried going the Post Office route from them but the packages kept getting lost..
Funny tho, they ONLY got lost from THAT vendor.. NOBODY else..
I get packages shipped to me daily/weekly thru the PO.. NONE get "lost"..
The vendor covered the cost of the parts the 1st few times it happened but I was told, NO MORE PARTS THRU the Post Office..PERIOD.!!
SO NOW, I'm stuck w/a 25.00 frt bill everytime I order anything..
I keep a healthy stock.. but w/ the amount of different inj. pumps "out there", its hard to have everything..
& if I start "passing it along" to my customers, its not long before I'm at Ebay pump prices.

Been using USPS for years to ship all over and I've only had ONE shipment get 'lost' and it showed back up here about 3 weeks later because USPS will always return a non deliverable package to the sender. How it works.

I think your vendor is either playing stupid to get the extra ship cost or their flunky is too stupid to complete the form properly and the items get lost with no return address.

I like USPS because they pick up my shipments right at my mailbox. Don't have to drive 20 miles to UPS and UPS always charges to pick up (so does Fed-Ex), not so with the Post Office.

I got it from a New Holland dealer for a few pennies less with free shipping.

I think theres some unnecessary whining going on on this subject.

Messicks is NOT a freight company. They dont make the money on freight. The freight company makes that money and charges Messicks for it and the customer benefits by Messick carrying the freight charges on their invoice.
YOu dont like paying freight thru Messicks? Then order items COD and see if you like THAT.
Or open your own USP account and have items shipped on YOUR account
Bottom line: Messicks isnt in the freight business and are just as much a victim of freight costs as you are.

Like many others present, I live waaaay out in the country and find freight a necessary cost-of-doing-business. I weigh it against driving 20 miles and back versus online purchases that charge freight. And sometimes Im able to talk directly to the parts counter and get them to drop small items in a USPS envelope for a few pennies... but the problem some shippers have with that is they have no way to TRACK the shipment (for penny-postage) and then the customer makes claims (false or not) they never recd the shipment. Oh.. want TRACKING? That requires more shipping costs again....whine, whine, whine...
