Help I***8217;m trying to decide what tractor to buy an mx 4800 Fel HST 4x4 R4; or mx 5800 FEL R4 HST 4x4. I have 15 acres of fields to mow once a month; some snow to plow when my neighbors not around. I plan on doing food plots with an 72 inch reverse roto tiller ; I like the RCD1884 mower for mowing and my dealer quoted 49xx for that. So because it***8217;s so high I might be budget wise looking at the RCR1872 or RCR2072 any options on which mower is better? 4K price difference on the tractors w Fel R4HST 4x4 4800vs 5800 .... 15%off vs 10 , also added filled tires , quick hitch on rear 3pt cat 2 land pride. Need options on tractor. Mower and thoughts . Third option mx5200 HST R4 4x4 new trailer with the RCD1884 same price as 5800 but the mx 5200 dealer is 400 miles away and he***8217;s taking about not giving farming tax break unless pay top dollar for delivery which makes the 5200 price go up 12xx over the 5800

Have you considered a Grand L with Cab? Sounds like you will be sitting in the saddle a lot. Consider snow in the face or nice and warm with the heat on. Mowing with 100 degree temps or having the AC rolling. If money is not an issue why not get a quote for that and see where you will be. I think I would by the biggest motor I can afford and then buy the biggest bat wing mower to compliment. My two cents. I do have the MX5800 and I have not ran out of power yet. But I have dug 3 feet of snow out of the drive and froze doing it. If you decide to stay with the MX I would buy the 5800. Good luck.

Tractors are like boat anchors, bilge pumps, engines, and boobs.... the bigger the better. I cannot recall anyone ever telling me they wished they'd bought smaller.

I have the 5800 with the 2072 mower and it's a great mower combo. I never owned a 5200 so I don't know what the difference would be but when I purchased mine there was only a 1800 dollar difference between the two.

He's not going to give you an AG tax break, unless you pay a delivery premium? Sound like extortion. I'd tell them to get f@$#$d! Then I'd take my money somewhere else. How does the AG tax break effect them?

A salesman has no authority to deny a legitimate tax exclusion. Ask for the manager and tell the manager you want the commission deducted or go elsewhere. (Well... maybe that's a bit extreme, but I'd certainly want the mgr involved and get some gratuity as an apology.)

Biggest difference is gonna be pto hp. U get 50 with the mx5800. It has a turbo too where the 4800 doesn’t. Same frame size. Same hydraulics far as I know. Maybe more pulling power with the 5800 but don’t know how that shows in reality. If the 4800 will spin and pull ur implements, go with it. I’m picked the 5800 for just in case I needed the extra hp in the future. It was the right choice for me.

Thanks for the replies, to answer some of your concerns. Yes I’d love a cab but am working with a $35K budget. So that would limit my HP options in th L series cab models . I’ve called other dealers to get new quotes for pricing. Cash is king and the farming community is suffering through all this wet weather and it’s going to limit their cash flow. Not sure that there are a lot of tractors being bought this spring. That thought should put me in a bargaining position . Question can someone measure their mx5800 or 5200 with loader down and tell me the length of the machine with loader ? And then a second measurement with their brush hog attached for total length ? I live 50 miles from the closet Kubota dealer and can’t find those measurements on the internet. Thanks and stay tuned

I am not able to attach the brushhog to my MX5800 tractor at the moment but I recently had it on my trailer. With the FEL, Loader Bucket, and 6’ Brushhog the approximate length would be 21-22’. Without the Brushhog subtract roughly 6’. With tariffs jumping 25% the market could see a price increase. If they are giving you a good deal prob better to buy now than later.

I am not sure that a L series Kubota will qualify enough as a farm tractor for you to get an extra discount for cash because of a wet spring. I could be wrong but usually those are not a size sought out by most farmers. If a dealer is also a big Ag dealer and doesn’t sell many compact tractors they might be hungry to deal.

Pretty sure with my 6 foot bush hog on & loader on the ground mine was 23 or 24 feet. Measured it b4 I started looking for a trailer to get the right size. A 25 foot trailer woulda worked. I found a used 30 footer if that’s why ur asking bout length

Thanks for the info.on the measurements . The rdc 1884 mower is 29 inches shorter then standard bush hog 80 vs 109 Getting close to purchase. I have two dealships that are about $300 apart . On a 5800 Fel , rdc 1884 mower ($5000) and QH15 for the rear 3 point hitch. Is that the proper/ best choice for a quick hitch for this setup?

Here we go with the loaded tire crap once again. Get the cast center option and forget loading the tires. Nothing but a PITA.

Go with R1's in the largest diameter you can get (bias) not radial.

If you are concerned about tractive effort, get a bigger tractor.

In this state, to have a valid ag tax exmption entails making out the paperwork, it's just not given to anyone. You have to prove you farm. No problem with me, I have ag exemptions with all my vendors and open account with most too.

My vendors prefer a farm check anyway. Credit cards garner a portal fee, usually 3-3.5 percent.

Not sure how PA or Texas works, just Michigan.

The salesman has every right to deny an exemption if the necessary forms aren't made out, at least here they do. It's about being honest and not trying to swindle the state out of the taxes on a purchase.

First thing I get when I initiate a new exemption is a letter from the Michigan Department of taxiation asking for proof of a legit exemption.

I just send them a copy of a current USDA survey.

Got my MX5800 and I***8217;m running a Land Pride RCD 1884 mower w FEL and titan pallet forks and I wouldn***8217;t want any less power (might want to forget the Mx 5200 . I waited a month for my dealer to order one from Georgia and get it up to northeast Pennsylvania. To address price mower $5000 with four quotes and other stuff $33500. Yup $38500 , three dealers were within $275 dollars of each other. Georgia had good deals. Virginia too. But nobody came close to Alabama pricing. Just too far from me . So with that said , the tractor is a beast. . Turns on a dime ....effortlessly. Tried to get it stuck in wet area and 4 x4 w R4 powered right through it . The height of the ROPS is 93 inches . Loader and tractor with 80 inch long mower just about 22 feet 9 inches. Drop bucket and save 24 inches . First field I attempted to cut and the mower cut like crap. A little anxious and the blades have a coating on them. A few field stones took care of the coating . Now cuts great . Giving my turbo 2 minutes warm up and cool down at 1100 RPMS . Engaging /disengaging PTO at 1100 rpm . Bogged down the tractor in 6 foot high hay going uphill once so I personally wouldn***8217;t want any less power. So far more then I expected. Storing it inside . Opted for Kubota insurance , dealer wouldn’t do kubota loan without it.

last week we saw a price difference between an MX 5200 and MX 5800 of $1200, so the larger unit is definitely worth the difference

"But nobody came close to Alabama pricing", no kidding and its only 12 miles away from us

IMO that would be the best 1200 bucks you ever spent.

Alabama price, no tax (AG exempt)- final estimate today

If I am reading this right, this dealer maybe prices all the attachments at list price and applies the discount to the base tractor price

MX5800 HST $24,400
R4 tires loaded Rimguard, wide setting (will fit 91" wheel wells on trailer)
LA 1095 Loader w/ SSQA $5,185
RCR 1872 cutter $2,150
1572-01 grader $1525
canopy $450
QH 15 $495
PFl 3048 pallet forks $895

after cash discount and Land Pride 2+ attachment discounts

Cash $34,400

Passed on these upgrades:

Square back bucket $400 (5 week backlog)
Top N Tilt rear hydraulics $2,200
Grapple and front third function $3,200

They would not do any add on's at whole goods discount and no labor

Best price I found in Georgia for same setup was $36,500 Beshears
