Tech said he has to pull the Transmission!???

Stopped by the dealer for Demo days, talked to the Tech that is changing my driveshaft oil seal on the trans side.
He claims the entire trans has to come out to install the new seal. I guess this is good because I swear the leak is higher up than that seal and he claims its just the drive shaft seal.

Anyone else know if the tractor needs to come apart for that seal? It does look like its near impossible to install a new seal without at least pulling the fenders.

Yep some models require extensive tear down to get to certain seals.

I'm assuming that's on your BX2670 in the signature?

Yeah, that wouldn't surprise me. Being that the transmission is set up like an oversized lawn mower, it surprises me not one bit.

On a BX the input shaft seal is actually inside of the hydro state. The seal you can see right behind the cooling fan is just a sealed ball bearing. The transaxle must be removed and hydro partly disassembled to repair.

It’s the drive shaft seal going to the front axle is what they say is leaking. I cleaned the area up and watched it as the tractor was idling, the leak seemed like it’s coming from above the front driveshaft seal. I hope he sees something else while he is disassembling it. When I talked to the tech he said there’s nothing else up that high that would leak.

The tubes supplying hyd. oil to the loader valve go above that seal. here is a picture of the assembly. the seal could be removed and replaced without disassembling the transaxle but it would be hard to do a good job that way and there is almost no way you could do it without removing the transaxle to get room to work on it!

Thanks, I hope he gets a better look once he pulls the fenders, fuel tank off. It should be wet in that area if the loader lines are leaking.

If the dealer has a lift it is a pretty easy seal to change. You just have to remove the undercover, filter, HST neutral spring and linkage. Linkage is just held on with a snap ring.
With those removed, it is very simple to R&R the seal. I just did it a couple of weeks ago, took about 1 1/2 hours.
No way would I try to change it this way without a lift though.
