I have a section of woods that I am cleaning out of debris, undergrowth and small to medium rocks and want to level the ground to some degree by filling in holes and such. I have a bx2380 w/fel & grapple. I would appreciate some advise/thoughts on my next purchase for this task which will then also be used for what ever else... box blade or scraper blade?

box does wonders on un-level ground - great for getting high spots to low spots

poor for anything else like moving from left to right.

Rear blade - excellent for moving left to right....not a great cutting device.

For what you explained the BOX wins. - it has the teeth (scarifiers) that will cut into the soil and allow dirt to be picked up and moved.

I bought a blade because that's all I had every been around. After I bought a box blade I've never used the blade again. And to put a time line on that it's been sitting in my shed unused for over 20 years.

See that's kinda where I am at, all I have ever owned is a scraper(no longer own) and have only used a box once that I borrowed, neither of which were in similar areas of use(in the woods)

I took the advise given and purchased a LP 12 box blade, went with the 48" for clearance in the woods, thanks for your responses

I have used my Box Blade for moving a lot of dirt and spreading out gravel. Works great for those types of applications.

I have a box blade for my Ford 1720 and that’s all I use on the gravel roads. I may get 4’ for my new BX

I bought a box blade and a hydraulic angle blade. I have built a mile long bush road in my back yard where I harvest firewood.
When I start building the road I put on my angle blade the first day. Took it off and never put it back on. I use the box blade for everything.

Once you get some seat time and get to know how to set your lift arms and top link to get different cuts and slopes you will be very happy with the box.

Only thing I ever use the angle blade for now is maybe one time in the spring when the snow starts melting, I will use it to cut the base off the driveway so I can wing it off to the sides.

I hope thr box blade was all you hoped for and more :)

I love mine to maintain our driveway and riding arena but still need a scraper to move the arena dirt from the outer edge back to the inside.

Did you try the box yet?

New to Kubota life with a used 1870.
I purchased a 40 acre woodlot that was logged over a few years ago. Due to gaining access issues, the previous owner had a dirt road punched in to gain access to the top section.
Between the rain and the elk, the road gets rutted up quite a bit.
My 1870 came with a 48” rear blade. I tried it out for smoothing the road but it wouldn’t get a good bite.
I took a chance on a 54” box scraper and just got it mounted this morning.
Went up just to play around a bit and after some adjustment was able to get the front blade taking a decent bite.
Didn’t have any rippers down and want to wait for it to dry some before I really get after it.
First impressions are the box scraper will be the better of the two for doing what I want.

You’ll find the box blade very usefull for many jobs. I kept my rear blade for light snow. Have a box blade for maintaining a quarter mile gravel drive. I also use a land plane for touching up the drive. All usefull tools.
