There is a lot that goes with trailers. You will need to study your local and state laws and figure out what pertains to your use. Business is different than personal use in my state and business use changes when you cross state lines. By all means get a gooseneck to haul equipment with, just pay attention and get a good one. Lots of cheap junk out there. You get what you pay for. Look and see what the construction people use and ask them what they think of what they are using. These people can destroy a trailer in the first year.

I probably should have stated early on that I am in business, farming business but at least around here, the DOT enforcement officers seem to like to stop landscapers with trailers of mowers and nail them

My DOT number is: 3109893 FYI.

Around here, with a farm tag, you can get away with almost anything.

Probably around here as well but I use the truck for non-farm stuff so I run weight based plates. My truck hauls our truck camper as well.

If you input my DOT number on Goggle, my Farm will appear because a DOT number is public record and is accesable to anyone.

The good old paper trail....

I’ve never used a gooseneck, but have had 5th wheel campers for years. The dynamic is the same. The tongue weight is centered over the rear wheels. I’ve never noticed “the tail wagging the dog” like I used to with my bumper pull camper. Even now that I have a 36’ fifth wheel, it still is easier to pull than my original bumper pull.

Backing the fiver did take some getting used to, but now that I’m good at it, I can sure maneuver that thing better than a bumper pull.

Both gooseneck and 5th wheels are designed so that the truck carries a good portion of the weight on the trailer. 5th wheels in general carry about 20% of the camper weight on the pin. I’m not sure if goosenecks use that same ratio. That was the reason I went up to a 1 ton truck with my 36’ fiver. Although I was within my towing capacity on the 3/4 ton, the tongue weight was too much. Make sure you have the truck to match the trailer.

Minnesota same thing, the officers have figured out that most of these guys don't have what they need. I have heard a MN state patrol officer say "we educate you by taking money out of your wallet" Those that did not do their homework first find out the hard way.
