I have a 2017 MX5200 HST, with 600 hours. When I press the Electric PTO switch to engage the PTO there is not response to the PTO. I always engage at idle. The last few times that I have used it, the PTO will work and then if I shut if off and try to engage it again, it will not engage. It is getting electrical current. I read somewhere that the clutch might have gone out. Is this a possibility??? How can I determine, for sure??? Is this a DIY job??? I do not necessarily want to take it into the dealer...$$$

Not a DIY job by a long shot. Grab the end of the pto shaft and try to turn it (tractor off). if it turns more than a couple turns, the clutch is gone but I highly doubt it. Not with 600 hours on the meter.

Yes, it spins freely...So, since this is not a DIY project. What kind of price am I looking at??? YIKES!!!

Better save up your pennies. Replacing the clutch pack entails splitting the tractor

Don't quite understand how you can destroy the clutch pack in 600 hours though.

I still think it's something else.

I believe the electrically engaged PTO use hydraulic fluid to generate the force on the clutch pack and the pressure is a function of RPM. If using the PTO at RPMS under say 2,200 or so, the pressure is reduced and clamp pressure on the clutches is less.

I've checked the pressure on my L4740-3 and was surprised by how much the pressure is reduced when under 2,000 rpms.

The bottom line is it is important to have the RPMs up when using the PTO on the these types of pressure regulated PTOs.

It might be worth checking your pressure and the control solenoid to see if it is functioning.

I hope the problem is minor.

Good luck!

Well, Crazy...I went out this morning, started up the tractor. Pushed the PTO button and PTO engaged. I ran the snow blower without any issues. I disengaged the PTO for a few moments. I tried to engaged it again, nothing. I turned off the tractor, started it again...Engaged PTO, worked fine.

I am perplexed.

Not likely anything wrong internally then. Likely electrical or something wrong with the PTO solenoid .
