Are you tired of all of the excess air bubbling out of the can nozzle while filling and/or pouring out—-hindering the liquid flow??? Drill a quarter inch hole in the top of the can opposite to the spout. Buy a valve stem for a regular tire—remove or drill out the interior part of the valve—-lightly grease the butt end of the valve stem. Attach an easy-to-pullout temporary wire to the valve stem and feed the wire thru the nozzle, into the drilled hole and pull the valve stem, cap end first, thru your hole. Pull the wire loose and gently twist the valve stem so the grove near the butt end slips into place against the edges of your hole to lock it into place. The uncapped valve releases trapped air so that the liquid flows freely.

Those things work great until the mechanism gets sticky and then they dont work so great.

Its probably all the additives in the fuel up here in NE but ive never had a gas can with moving parts in the nozzle last more than a couple years. They always tend to start sticking open or closed then break.
I don't worry too much about the mechanics of the diesel can nozzle.
I've been using a battery operated kerosene pump to fill my B7800 with diesel fuel. I place the can of diesel fuel between the engine and loader frame, and the hose of the kerosene pump is just long enough to reach the tractor's fuel tank opening.

That's what i did on all my existing cans that had the ridiculous spill prone California "no spill" (my arse) spouts. Retrofitted all of them to the EZpourspouts kit. Hard to beat the simplicity of no moving parts that can never fail, and speed at which a can, can be emptied.

These are great. Package has long high flow spout and vent to add to your exist can. You can get them a Tractor Supply for under $10. So much easier filling the tractor tank now (and quick).

A 1" PVC cap fits nice and snug over the spout to keep debris out. The can is a little pricey but the on/off lever is easy to operate and lets me fill the tank completely with no spillage. I have no regrets at all.

I'm not really sure what to make of it, because most dirtbikes and four wheelers have very wide fuel openings.
My curiosity is whether it works on angled openings or not. I'll probably never spend $30-$40's each on fuel cans just to fill my tractor but they are the most interesting of the mechanized cans, that i have seen so far.

I originally did what the original poster suggested but had a few minor problems over time.
One is if you fill the can fairly full you can get fuel blown out of the nozzle (into your face) when removing the valve stem cap.
Second is dropping the cap into grass and losing it so need some spares handy
Third is after a while the valve stem degrades from gas and the flange will fail
