Newb here, I just want to thank ya'll for any suggestions. I'm replacing the dual clutch in my neighbors L2650. Splitting a tractor is a first for me so I was excited to jump in and get to work. It's all going smoothly until I ran into what I believe is a leaking rear crank seal, if you look at the picture below. There is oil seeping from the bearing in the middle of the case. Is there a passage where oil can get through the crank seal and behind that bearing? Picture was taken right after removing the flywheel, so the bell housing hasn't been wiped down or cleaned. Would I be okay just replacing the crank seal or is there something beyond that I need to take a look at?
My neighbor did say at one point they over filled the hydraulic fluid on accident. I have read somewhere that the hydraulic fluid can make it's way back to the clutch housing via the breather. Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank You, Jeff

The fluid looks to be more of a main shaft seal (clutch housing) than a rear main seal (engine).

If you do change the rear main, you should replace the 2 gaskets and the rear main seal at the same time.

On the clutch housing side there are an outer and inner seal and guide, you need to replace all three parts.

Wolfman, Thank You, for the reply and suggestion on the clutch seals. Going to go at again tomorrow and take a look at those seals.
Thanks Again, Jeff

That rear main is not leaking.

The reddish fluid around the bearing is either assembly fluid or anti-seize that was put on the shaft.

The mainshaft does not appear to be leaking either, you would be seeing splatter (Had one go on a L2250)

What does appear to be leaking is the PTO Gear Shift Fork Seal (Bottom Right rod with the gold bracket, you can see the seal is wet/weeping. Much easier to replace that seal too...

Yep you nailed it, I forgot about that seal, mine was leaking too.
But then again everything was leaking in there thanks to an over qualified dealership mechanic driving the 3 shafts right out of the front of the case! ;)

Cobra & Wolfman, Big thanks! I worked a little on the tractor this morning and have few more pictures. The thin seal behind the case shaft showed a little leakage and the pto shifter is definitely leaking. Main shaft seal appears to be in good shape. Here's a few more pics just in case anyone see's anything else out of the ordinary.
Thanks Again, Jeff
