I've had my 2009 used BX for almost a year but only last week dropped the BH and mounted roto tiller, so this is my 1st use of PTO.
I stalled the engine when I engaged the tilller at too low speed - but now won't restart . I've had to jiggle the PTO lever and move pedals in the past but, that isn't working this time. When I turn key I hear a faint fast clicking sound but starter doesn't engage. Everytime that I turn off the key, after about 5 seconds, I hear a singe louder click from the engine compartment. sounds like a switch opening or closing. I think the fast clicking might be the fuel pump?
I moved all the levers to their normal start positions but that hasn't worked.
Any tips or thisng to look for?
Thanks

Have you disengaged the pto since the stall? Also, are you in the seat when engaging the pto?

The click after turning the key off is normal.
It ismthe stop fuel solenoid.

Sounds like a battery if it just clicks, not enough power to crank.
Also wiggle the pto lever to make sure it is hitting the safety switch.
And the seat switch.
Try maually pushing the button on that one.

Everything you describe IS NORMAL....right up to the part where it doesnt start.
Since this happened with 1st use of PTO - it must be related to the PTO safety switch.
I would dig into that switch. Bypass to prove it is not working, report back

Thanks everyone - I'm going out now to try the suggestions - I also suspect the PTO safety switch - Is there a way to bypass that switch or a way to reach it without removing tire? Since tractor won't start , no way to lift the tractor?

Thanks everyone for the trouble shooting suggestions. It was the PTO lever safety switch.
I had to push the lever all the way forward and hold it in place while turning the key.
I used to be able to leave the tractor running in idle and get off to move stuff but, now the tractor shuts down when I get out of the seat.
Still wondering is there a way to adjust switch with the tire on?

TO USE the PTO while you are OFF the seat - flip it forward, yup, there is a safety switch for that too!!!:):D

BX didn't start today - jiggling PTO select lever didn't help. It's now on jack stands with tire removed. Also picked up a new switch from dealer. Hope that will do it. I'll be back for more advice if it doesn't.

Just remember, older tractors didn't have safety switches. Safety switches are an outgrowth of a litigious nanny state. I've shorted across the wiring for the seat safety switch because lubricating the PTO chain driven speed reduction on the front-mounted snowblower is most effective when the PTO is turning at low speed while I pour the chainsaw bar oil on.

The best safety switch is the one mounted between the ears of the human operator. The safety switches installed on our tractors are merely in place so the Kubota corporate lawyers can sleep at night.

Final report back - the problem was both of the PTO saftey switches were intermittently not connecting because the levers were not pushing the buttons fully down. I adjusted both safety switches (PTO selector lever and PTO engage lever) and BX is starting properly.
Thanks, all for your advice.
