After years of just mowing grass, I’ll be blowing snow this year. I want to put a block heater into the water jacket, not through a freeze plug. I’ll use the tapped hole on the right side. Can I buy a universal one or do I have to go through Kubota for it?

There was a discussion here recently where a knowledgeable poster stated that the Kubota OEM heaters are manufactured by Katz. I suppose you could save a little and get it elsewhere, but the OEM Kubota heaters are not that expensive.

We have a couple BX2230's and they both have the block heater in the lower rad hose which work's just fine sometimes they seem to get in your way when you change the oil filter but it's not a big deal. The one unit sat outside all one winter in the wind with no shelter and started everytime and believe me it gets cold hear.

There are a few different types of block heaters depending on where you want to put one and how much you want to spend.. you can spend 20-30$ on a oil dipstick block heater that goes in place of your oil dipstick.. doubt it works all that great tho, then there is a magnet type that sticks to the bottom of your oil pan these around roughly 35-55$ but good luck trying to get one on your bx pan as it isn’t really in an accessible location, then there is a coolant hose Splitter type they run around 25-40$ and would go on your lower radiator hose, you would cut the hose in half and then get a couple of hose clamps and throw the heater right in the middle of the 2 half’s of the coolant hose that you cut. Then lastly there is an engine block type which works the absolute best... you will have to take out one of your freeze plugs to do this but on your 00 series bx it’s not hard, your freeze plug should just thread out on that motor and then you just pipe dope/pipe tape your block heater threads and thread it on in.. these block heaters will run you around 65-90$ but they are well worth the money.

Mine is made by Kubota I paid about 80$ for it for my bx2370 and it warms my block up in a matter of hours depending on outside temp, just watch your electric bill! ;)

Here is a great video of a bx2200 block heater install, hope this helps!
