The receiver on my Dakota has a closed front. I don't like the design but it is what it is. The design makes it bothersome to get the hitch in the last eighth of an inch or so. I don't think it would hurt anything if I cut a quarter of an inch off the back. Anyone have an opposing view?

Probably have some dirt, mud and crud in there. Take a screw driver and scrape around in there and blow out with air. If nothing works cut off a 1/4" off the hitch.

Not sure why the end is closed. It's just square schedule 60 tubing. Mine is open on the end and I don't believe cutting the end off would impact anything. Might be hard to cut it off however, not much room at the end to manipulate a saw.

No probably about it. It's mostly rust. My preferred tool is a manure tine from the loader that I bought, but the receiver buts right up against the end and if fights you for the last eighth of an inch or so because you can't get the corners clean.

Suggestion: Use a 4.5 metal or diamond cutoff wheel to bevel the lower forward end of the ball mount. Light pressure with a little "rocking" melts through and does a great job. Then some black touch-up paint and you are done!

All I know is, all the receivers on my Browns are God awful...other than Jarvis Landry.
Last time I had trouble with mine I soaked it in PB Blaster and hit it with a hammer for 15 minutes. Maybe you could try that? You'll probably need help getting them to hold still for it though...
