Really annoyed, more dealer headaches

So I lock in the order for a B2650 with various add-ons on 08/31/18 to take advantage of the implement discounts and the financing options. I was told there were 3 financing options at the time:

1. 0% down, 0% interest for 60 months
2. 10% down, 0% interest for 72 months
3. 20% down, 0% interest for 84 months

I wasn't sure which I wanted to go with yet, so I asked the salesman a number of times do I need to choose right now? The answer was NO.

I emailed:

I'm not sure if you need to know which financing option right at this moment, but it'll be between the 72 and 84 month.
Here is what I was emailed:

Since the programs for finance and discounts end by tomorrow we can apply for an extension to ensure these programs can be extended. The only thing Kubota requires is an approved credit application.
Fast forward to today after my visit last week inspecting the machine and seeing various areas of the implements marred up and waiting on a decision on what the dealer would do. I was told today that they are going to order replacement arms for the box blade (that's good!) and will touch up any areas that were nicked up (also good!). OK, so making progress! The next thing is they want to sign the contract before the end of the month, so I go in to take care of it.

Well, they have the contract locked in at 60 months and KUBOTA WILL NOT CHANGE IT. The salesman called Kubota with me there and they said they can't do anything to change it. So the salesman said he would talk with the owner.

Owner called me shortly ago and said there is nothing they can do. Claims that I agreed to 60 month financing because selecting an option is required when submitting the contract with Kubota? I do not recall this conversation, but he is adamant regarding that's how it happened. I said based on the information I received, that was not my understanding at all. He said the salesman doesn't know all the financing details as the owner usually handles that.

In all fairness, the salesman has been great to work with but this seems like a significant hiccup. Technically I haven't signed a contract and from what I understand the owner submitted an unsigned contract to Kubota (?)...at least that's how he made it sound on the phone. At this point I'm thoroughly confused and it seems like he isn't willing to make up the difference on the 0% vs 0.99%. I have to run through the math to see where this really works out against me, but the owner didn't seem interested in making up the difference no matter what it was. All I heard about was the cost to setup the tractor (man hours installing valves, etc), the cost to replace the box blade arms (which were damaged by someone other than me), the amount they had to discount during bargaining (which was still higher than another non-local dealer I got a quote from), etc.

Man this process has just turned miserable. Ultimately I'll wind up getting the tractor, I guess I could be a jerk and just walk away because I didn't sign anything but a credit application but I don't want to do that. So much for going with the local dealer...

LESSON LEARNED FOR ALL: If you are trying to extend a Kubota discount that is soon to expire, you must complete a Kubota credit application AND select your financing plan! You will be locked into whatever you choose (or don't choose and the dealer chooses for you) at the time.

Anyway, hope to have the tractor soon...but dealing with crap like this makes me quite a bit less excited about it.

EDIT: FWIW, I believe the math comes out to $820.97 in APR fees on 0.99% over 72 months on $27,000 versus paying $2700 up front (10%). $27K is the approx out the door pricing with all the options in my package.

Despite the cluster f......

What "was" you payment over the 72 months.......and what "was" you payment over the 84?

You were willing to place money down then.......so you still can!!! But I am a firm believer of money in the hand is liquid.....money for a down payment is ....whats the word....."stu...pid!" WHY ? because the money down on the last two options WERE to get the zero percent, since the shortest term is AT 0% all ready, and YOU have money in your hand....do ONE of two things........USE THAT money for the first couple of payments or use it on something else.

The only real disadvantage is that your payment is higher now! Use the money that you have left over via the original down payment and use it to lower the primary payments.

Go online and set up the direct withdrawal.....once done, easy peasy.

ONCE YOU GET YOUR fanny in the seat......you'll almost forget what you are paying monthly.;):)

Trust me - despite the twist, you will be overly excited once the orange rolls home!:D

Good points, I might just do that!

I agree, once you get her home and start using her, all this hassle won't matter.
Hah, yeah I'm sure that will be the case! Maybe take the frustration out on my driveway with a box blade or something! I just am a man of principles, hate feeling like an agreement isn't honored. I'll get over it.

Since you're going to buy the tractor from them, all your dealings need to be as though there is no animosity or you could be on the short end of the stick when it comes to service, etc.

Coincidentally, I just spoke with the owner again talking about the same thing. We both want a good relationship moving forward, as I have plans for future implements and may even upgrade tractors in the future and of course they want the sales/service work. We talked for awhile, and I think things are on a better track now. He offered to give me a discount in the future, so we'll see how that goes. We both had crappy days, no sense in pushing it...I'll just see if he stays true to his word down the road...for now, I just want the damn tractor home! haha

What's dumb about this is the same "incentives" or "offers" are still in effect through the end of the year. So why not just allow you to pick the offer you want as if you are purchasing the tractor now? Orange has all the flexibility in the world; it's their tractor, it's their dealer, it's their bank... they own it all! Why the hassle?

I have purchased using K Finance before. All finance companies are willing to give away free money these days. I would have walked from and headed to Big Green, but it sounds like you will find satisfaction eventually, so no need to fan flames.

Glad to hear you kept it cool and hopefully have a tractor soon! I do like that B2650!

Both mine have been paid for for a long time now but I didn't finance either one through Kubota. I did both through CNH Capital. Got a better rate and quarterly payments too.

I'm a man of principles and I dont like anyone that lies to me or makes their problems mine.

I think if this happened to me I'd have been asking them how concerned they are about their having submitted a contract under your name that you never agreed to or physically signed. They are potentially messing with YOUR finances and YOUR credit due to THEIR mistake and I would be making that painfully clear to them. IMHO they need to acknowledge this was their problem, fully, and offer to correct it. Without that, I'd be doubting all future dealings with them, I'd let them know that explicitly, and let them respond. Their response will ell you everything you need to know! They need to know that one of your options is simply to walk away having actually never signed anything and they will be left cleaning up this entire mess on their own.

I had a really bad experience trying to buy from my local dealer and I havent pulled any punches online or telling them in person that they lost my business due to poor business practices and that everyone in my neighborhood considering a tractor from them knows about it. Probably doesnt help them treating me any better but at some point there needs to be repercussions for these dealers or they will never change their ways.

I really hope the next time I get "screwed", that it's for 60 months at 0%.

Yep, that's the kind of screwing I want.
Certainly not the terms that were considered "screwing" me, although I did want a different term. What "screwed" me was the verbal (phone/in-person) and emailed agreements on my options that were later changed without any accommodation AND that a contract was submitted to Kubota on my behalf WITHOUT my approval or signature. Maybe you're OK with that happening to you, I'm not OK with it happening to me. So yeah, IMO that is "screwing" a customer.

If you didn't sign anything, then you are clear and free. They can't force you to take anything. That said you could also call Kubota and complain about the dealer...they might get a rep involved. However that might hurt future relations.

If you do have to work up the credit app again, it will definitely be based on current offers...which kinda sucks if you wanted something else. Best of luck, hope it works out!

Right, I went with the future relationships salvage (although the dealer should have been the one to extend that olive branch). All went well with the purchase, she's home now and put in some work yesterday and today with her. Lot of fun so far, already started on the gravel driveway grading and am immediately saying to myself why didn't I have this tractor a couple years ago?!?! So far this machine is working well. Been ripping out some small pine trees with the Pirahna toothbar too, just takes a little work and using the weight of the tractor to uproot the whole thing out of sandy soil. I did run into a pretty hefty tree stump that I'll have to come up with another solution for...maybe dig out and chain/pull. Tomorrow I might chainsaw a trail to the woods where I can start dumping all the brush I don't want around the house!

I guess times have changed. When I bought my 105 and the M9, I did the entire transaction on a handshake That is just over 100 grand worth of tractors.

My dealer (who I still deal with today was a multi line dealer at the time, New Holland and Kubota which is why I went with CNH Capital in the first place and the fact that I already had New Holland implements financed.

My dealer lost NH a couple years ago (just like JD dealers are becoming multi outlet dealers) and the 'little guy' gets screwed and my latest and newest round bailer I had to buy from a conglomerate NH dealer but my Kubota dealer can still get NH parts so I get my consumable parts and net from him.

In my business, I'm constantly buying new equipment and selling or trading used equipment, fact of farming. You wear stuff out when you are using it 12 hours a day every day (Sundays don't count to a farmer). Just another day.

Still do everything on a handshake but then I'm old and so is the dealer owner.

The dealer I deal with don't have a fancy showroom, the counters are worn and the floor is dirty and you can go out in the shop and walk around anytime. Nothing fancy. I don't like fancy. Fancy to me smells like a screw job.

Only thing that don't leave are the 2 Kubota tractors. been here for a long time and I expect them to be here until I farm no more, which could be this tear with crop prices where they are. Farming is going from profit based to hobby based.
