Proud new owner of L4760HSTC. I have 42 lite hours on her. This past weekend, an intermittent grinding/scratching sound began while going back and forth packing down minor dirt work. I feel it through the pedal and it sounds like its coming directly beneath feet. At first I thought it was transmission related, but I now notice that it only does it when I go over uneven terrain and the tractor shakes from side to side--this makes me think its suspension related.

There were a few minor problems with assembly, like lights upside down and hydro fluid a little low, so I am wondering if nuts were not torqued to spec or something else. I crawled under tractor and everything look clean as a whistle. I am taking tractor in for 50 hour service in Nov and will have dealer check it out, but trying to pin-point and fix or give dealer specifics on what is causing.

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Thanks

Gscott, welcome to the forum. You mentioned, "...makes me think its suspension related." Only suspension on your tractor is the padding in your butt and the springs in the seat!

Best do as previously suggested. Check lugnuts and loader attachment bolts.

I have a L4060 and I notice sometimes a sound that might be similar to yours and it seems to be when going over rough terrain, but to me it sounds like fluid cavitation or something like that. I'm not sure and it's pretty intermittent. Mine only has 18 hours on it. I've torqued everything.

Let me know if you figure out what the problem is.

Took loader off and still does it. Had dealer test drive. They think everything is fine--just normal noises. I am going to put more hours on it and keep looking around for cause. Tractor works fine, just the random noise and scratching. Figure it will get worse if an issue, or hopefully work itself out.

I've had a L3560HSTC for 4+ yrs now and I have had it back to the dealer with similar type sounds, vibration and rumbling etc. I thought it had something to do with the hyd. pump as that is under the right foot and have had trouble with the dealer not topping off the hyd. fluid and not tightening bolts etc. I changed dealers and they checked everything and even checked the noises and declared all was OK. Just normal noises. I really notice it when I go up my real steep driveway (gravel) especially with a load. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

LOL....air in the tires as well.... Only tractors I know of with suspensions are Fas-Trac's

Every HST tractor I've owned all exhibit some level of harmonic vibration as the fluid travels through the pump and hard lines. Fact of operation. Other than checking for loose bolts and torquing the lug nuts, ignore it.

On occasion, mine has a rubbing noise. I jacked up the front and found that the plastic shield on the drive shaft rubs.

Some BX models had vibration issues. Mine was one. About mid point on engine a quarter inch steel plate sticks out and depending on angle of tractor would get against the frame and cause a very noticeable vibration. I called my dealer who told me he cuts a quarter inch off the piece of steel sticking out from engine. Worked for me. Don’t know if your model could have a similar issue but worth a look.
