Quick hitch advice

I'm very experienced with hooking up implements to a 3-point hitch, but I've never used a quick hitch. I bought a cheap one from Titan for my MX4800. It seems fine. I mounted it to my 3-point hitch, but the other end confuses me. I get how the latches on the bottom connect to the lower pins, but on the top there is just a hook. How does that work?

Leave your top link pin in the implement....just back up to it and lift.

Some older implements may not be compatiable with the QH dimensions, and need some "tweaking"

Thanks for the tip. The standard top link is a solid connection - pin cannot come out the top. This quick hitch link is open...pin could lift out? Or does the weight keep it in place? Why are there a bunch of adjustment holes for the quick-hitch top-link hook?

I have several QH compatible implements and the hook works best at near the lowest setting.

Others I have to hook up to the implement then insert the hook to the required height.

Regardless, having the QH makes hooking up so much easier.

My land plane is QH compatible but it is sometimes stubborn. I have to lift and drop it for it to sit in the u shape receivers occasionally.

To me worth their weight in gold.

Did you get the adapters for the bottom pins on the implements?
If not I would recommend doing that it's a lot better with them.
There are adapters for Cat I and for Cat II so you need to know which QH you have.

The top hook stays on the pin because the bottom pins hold it down into the hook.

The top hook is adjustable to align with different top pin heights if needed, it is not required for the top pin to be completely at the bottom of the hook when engaged, just well engaged.

I have no adapters. What are they needed for again? The balls on my MX are category II so I used those adapters to mount the quick hitch. All of my implements are cat I.

They are bushings to increase from your Cat 1 lift pins to Cat 2 or 3. Your QH is probably Cat 2 or 3 compatible.

The ones Wolfman linked are ideal for ground-engaging stuff, and on line is they way to buy them. I use them on my box blade, but not carry-all. $15 on eBay....$30 at TSC.

A simple bushing will also work for some stuff. Takes away slop. Different sizes for lift pins and top link pins. If needed, a Cat 2/3 bushing will slide over a Cat 1/2 bushing to shim out a Cat 1 pin to 3. So far, I haven't used a bushing on the top link pins, but have on lift pins.

Bingo and notice in the pictures how the hook is on and the only thing holding it up is the QH as i don't even have it attached to a tractor at the moment...Tractor in on post hole digging duty!

Also notice the bushing is attached to the implement using a roll pin through the lynch pin hole. Get a set for each implement.

Once you get it all figured out and get your implements adapted if needed to fit the quick hitch your going to really like the ease of use when switching implements. Congrats on the purchase.

Yeah, hooking up to implements is a major pain. With my B-series it isn't too bad, because the tractor is small...you can just put the transmission in neutral and grab a wheel and roll the tractor a little bit forward or back. And the implements are smaller. But on the L4310 or MX4800, the tractors are kind of too big to roll that way, and the implements are bigger and heavier.

As for the purchase...I called my dealer and they had a Land Pride Quick Hitch for my MX...price was over $700, lol. Looked on Titan Attachments...Chinese, I know...but I paid $86. It does the same thing and appears to be rugged enough. I'm certain the Land Pride hitch would be much better quality and nicer. But not $650 nicer, in my opinion.

they make hooking up to an implement easy. But you still have to get off of the tractor to disconnect (to unlock the QC). I have one on my MF and like it other than still having to get off to change implements, which is pretty rare really.

Also have to be careful when disconnecting. As I"m standing next to the QC, and release the last lock, you have to be mindful of where your 3ph lever is at. If it's all the way down, the QC will drop to your feet. You can only imagine how I found that out.
