We are at 48.5 hours and preparing for 50 hour change oil/filter and Transmission filter (HST).

Was scanning the L3901 owners manual and noticed on page 79 TWO oil drain plugs in the picture. But footnote one just says drain plug...singular. Am I misreading that???? If so, what are they trying to show? If not, why two? Have not climbed underneath yet but will do in the am.

I noticed on page 75 they caution not to remove the hydraulic oil filter and simply change the transmission oil filter...surely I will not blow that one.

After years (decades) operating trip buckets, manual trike steering and old tractors that are a chore to climb, this orange machine is a huge blessing!!!! If I knew what I was missing would have pulled the trigger years ago.

I believe there are two drain plugs on some Kubota units because of the shape of the pan. The two plugs allow total drainage...
Well that makes sense and will confirm tomorrow, i guess i was focusing on the manuals description of "drain plug" but two plugs in the pic. No big deal, i think you have it figured out, thanks.

My 7060 has 2 drain plugs for the engine oil. My old 6800 had 2 also. The way the pan is configured you have to take out the left and the right drain plug to get all of the oil out.

Well that explains it, two posts same conclusion. I guess i am a little gun shy of the manual due to regen section. We shall see how my 3901 oil pan is configured tomorrow. Thank you.

The others have steered you correct there are two plugs to remove. You will notice when you look under your tractor the oil pan is made so the drive shaft goes through the middle.

...I noticed on page 75 they caution not to remove the hydraulic oil filter and simply change the transmission oil filter...surely I will not blow that one.

Removing the hydraulic filter will drain the 11 gal (about) sump. Removing the transmission filter will not. My L4060 called for the trans filter at 50, then every 200h. Trans oil and hydraulic filter at 400. Service intervals for the fluid (particularly at 50) vary, as my previous L3410 specified replace trans fluid at 50h.

You may want to read up on factory installed trans and hydraulic filters before you start... sometimes they are on extremely tight and may require additional (simple) tools.
Enjoy your new machine!

we replaced all 3 of the filters and fluids at 50 hours. Large channel lock pliers are your best tool to remove the tight tranny filters

My preference is a chain wrench, or for a more finesse job use a punch to tap on the slotted ring at the base. I know a lot of folks here dump the transmission fluid at 50h even in applications that specify 400h. I was tempted to do the same on my now 2 year old L4060, but decided to let it go to 400h.

Ok, next time i will look prior to posting. Drive shaft through the middle pan.

I have never changed diesel oil so clean. I have a cummins 5.9, dirty right after i change it. I always change it at 3500 or so. This 3901 runs amazingly clean, gotta be good.

Thanks to all
