I am looking at a 2013 L5740 and was told by the owner that it does not have Tier 4 emissions nor does it use DEF or any filters.
Can anyone confirm if this true as I thought after 2012 all machines were T-4?

Not true. Maybe the law was passed then but the Tier 4 tractors didn't appear until 2014.

Tier IV is a standard, and does not specify what equipment will be used to meet it. In 2013 the new Grand L 60 series were for sale and did use a dpf filter to meet that standard. That is when I bought mine. There were still available earlier versions of L tractors. The year of a tractor is the year it was sold, not the year it was made.

I traded my L5030HSTC, great shape, in for a new L5740HSTC to avoid the final Tier IV L60. The L40 series had Interim Tier IV engines, some added turbos for emission control and the injection system was modified making it smoke and rattle more than the L30 Series. No L40 was Tier IV Final.

The tractor is 6 hours away and getting out there will be difficult.
The seller will arrange shipping.
Other than from photo's and the limited info the seller, who is a used equipment dealer, apparently has, I have no way of assessing the machines actual condition.
Has anyone bought a tractor sight unseen before? Bad idea?

I did but super low hours and I'd been talking with the gentleman off and on for over a year. With 1500 and knowing what I know now I'd go look at it. Fluid and filter changes can add quite a bit for one thing.

I'd only buy the tractor if I saw it in person. Simply because you're not spending $2,000 on an old tractor, you're 15 times that!

What's described as "no issues", or "nice and clean", or "recent service" is not really measurable, only someone's opinion. Example: Someone says "recent service" and one person thinks that means last weekend. The other person thinks it means within the last 6 months.

Take the time to SEE what you're buying so you'll be happy when you use it!

I’d spend the time and effort to go look at it and test it out before spending $30k.

Servicing can be expensive. HST Fluid is $300+, oil filters another $100+, air filters another $100, plus the cost of motor oil $50. You're looking at Approximately $600.

Tractors seem to be more expensive expensive in your neck of the woods, but there should be some room to negotiate on price.

Does it come with any optional accessories. Rear defogger, side defogger, rear wiper, mid PTO, etc.

I had bad tie rod ends on my L4740 so you might want any to check them out. Lift wheels off the ground using FEL and move wheel in and out. Easy fix but another $250 assuming you’re doing the work.

They were bad at about 525hrs, but put off replacing them until about 600 hours.

After removal I cut them apart and could believe how bad they were. I did create a post about it either on this site or the other tractor site.
