Newbie here!!

Buying a M7060HD this week. Dealer is recommending the RCF2784 rotary cutter, but I was reading that it requires 60-130 HP minimum.

Wondering if I would be putting too much stress on the 7060 by being at the bottom of that range.

I just bought 40 acres that has approximately 30 acres to mow and it has grass that is 4' high in many places.

any thoughts out there?

Not that likely to stress it, more that it may bog down. The tractor is plenty strong enough, but to keep revs up you may need to drive a bit slower in heavy or wet grass. That's pretty much true of every tractor though - the question is just how often - even a 100 hp tractor would still have some situations where you slow down.

A 7' rotary cutter is not going to hurt your M7060.

That said, I am not fond of 7' single-spindle cutters. Such cutters are long and there is considerable weight well back of the lift arms. If you have any steep ground you will need front weights unless you have a mounted FEL.

Experience has taught me that most 7' cutters pull harder than most dual spindle 8' cutters.

Currently,I use a Woods BB840X, 7' cutter (bought for another tractor, since sold) with my M9960. It is rugged, durable, and cuts well but it is also on the priority list to be replaced with a twin spindle 8' mounted cutter, or, more likely, a 12' or 15' BW.

I have both an 8ft and 12ft rotary cutter which I use with my M7060HDC and never had a problem with power.

30 acres is a lot to cut so if budget allows I would look to something bigger than the 7ft cutter.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the feedback.

I am thinking of a larger size due to the property size, but I plan on grazing that property as well so I am hopeful that my mowing is limited next year.

I am grateful for the responses and super excited to see that orange tractor roll up my driveway Friday afternoon:D

POSTED THIS REPLY IN ANOTHER FORUM CONCERNING A 7 FT ROTARY FOR A mx 5800

You have a few more hp than me but I would caution against a 7 ft rotary. Had one, sold it. Issue is they are single gear box, and the blade sweep time for each blade rotation is much longer than the 6 ft. We are talking seconds here, but in that time you are cutting an extra ft of material. I felt my tractor straining. An 8 ft rotary has two gear boxes, 4 swinging blades, each blade doing less work, better cutting results, less effort. As an aside, I have a befco C-70, finish mower, it has swinging blades like a rotary, but a nice finish cut. Also height adjustment to 6 inches for field/pasture, It has a cut width of 9 foot, 2 inches And NO sign of engine strain. BTW, my wheel width is set at 74 inches w/ R4, I find that adequate. On my IH, width is 84 inches, that is super stable. I cut both pasture and lawn w/ the befco. Good luck.
(7 ft rotary produced extreme windrow result of clippings, FYI)

As long as it isn’t heavy grass a M7060 will pull a 15’ Batwing. I clipped pastures with my M7040 for several years before I upgraded to a M9540.

I would recommend at 8’ Multi spindle or a 12’ Batwing. I have a Kodiak HD 8 and it’s an ok cutter. It’s a little weight to be considered HD but will do fine cutting pastures.
