My grooming mower keeps throwing its belt. Blades appear fine, no apparent wobble in pulleyes except one. The tension pulley wobbles as i increase rpm, violent at 540, so it sure appears to me that is the source. Its not a vertical or side to side wobble as bearings shot, but a back and forth in the same directions as tightening and losening the tension, but very rapidly.

Really dont know where to check next. Thanks

I would expect broken cords in the belt(s).

Is it the same belt over again, or have you tried a new belt? If is the same belt then I agree with the above statement about the belt being the cause. Especially since you describe a tightening/loosening of the tensioner and not the standard bad bearing wobble.

Have you verified the spring is connected and the tensioner is in good condition to rule it out as the cause?

SDT and AKguy09: I never once thought about the belt. I bought the mower used 18 months or so ago, reasonably new belt and two new idler pullies. I ran the mower off my M (3 pt equiped) and all fine.

Just bought 3901 and at first ok but belt issue progressively got worse. Yes, same belt all the time. As the belt makes revolutions tension pulley moves in and out just like someone pulling on it rapidly. Never seen that.

Ok thanks. We will get a new belt and see how it goes.

Thanks Folks, replaced belt and mower running fine. Old belt did not look too bad, but one spot was weaker.

Kinda pricy OEM, $70.00
