50 hour service - Change all Filters?

Hello folks!

I recently had a 50-hour service completed on an MX5800. My owners manual specifies that at 50-hours, in addition to engine oil and engine oil filter, the HST filter and hydraulic filter must also be changed (not fluids, just filters). The servicing dealer insisted that Kubota has updated the schedule and those filters now don't need to be changed until 200 hours, but haven't reprinted their manuals. I asked them for a checklist of what their service would entail and they sent me a list that matched my owners manual. I asked them to stick to the list, and they said they would. When they returned my tractor, the only tasks done were engine oil & filter, greasing unit, and checking over unit. I've found this dealer to be incredibly difficult to deal with and won't send the tractor back to them. My question is, should I replace the HST and hydraulic filters? Or has Kubota really extended the period on those? I would like to keep my warranty in tact.

Thank you, Wolfman. Good to hear someone confirm what the dealer is saying.

It looks like in the new manual Kubota still says that filters are required at 50 hours (page 63-65). It'd be nice for Kubota to get the same message to consumers as they do to service centers though to make it more clear.

Update:

I misread the new manual earier, The dealer as per the manual is 100% wrong!
Yes they should have changed the HST filter and hydraulic filter, along with adjusting the clutch, changing engine oil filter and oil! :mad:

So I would demand that they make it right!
Or save the grief and either find a new dealer or do it yourself.

FYI: I you paid to have it serviced then I would demand a refund for not doing the service as it was supposed to be performed!

Okay - thanks for replying again, Wolfman. I don't mind doing the service myself -- in fact I enjoy it. I just figured that for the first one it would be wise to have the dealer look at the tractor as a trained eye might see something I miss. Essentially, this dealer charges $500 for an engine oil change and to grease the zerks and torque the wheel bolts.

I should perhaps clarify, that this is the first service - so the first 50-hour service.
Yes the First 50 hour is the one that gets all the filters changed.
It makes me sad to think a dealer isn't smart enough to read their own information.

I personally would be contacting Kubota Corp to tell inform them the dealer is making bad decisions for its customers! :mad:

Good luck contacting anybody at Kubota Korp. Let me know if you EVER get a response.

The best way to vote your opinion is with your wallet. Unfortunately both the dealer and Kubota already has your money.

Ha - yes mikester, live and learn I suppose.

I did get an emailed response from Kubota, and they said to refer to and follow the schedule in my Owners Manual. I told the dealer that and they emailed me a document that Kubota released in 2015 extending the service period on some tractors and used it as the justification for why they didn't change the filters even though we had agreed upon it (in writing even!) beforehand. The MX series wasn't even listed (it was right around the time it was introduced, I believe).

I think I just have to eat this one and let it go - it's pretty frustrating to think about it. Glad I have another dealer about the same distance away.

Of course, your problem now is that your warranty requirements have not been met.

I think you are not in compliance with warranty requirements as it stands right now.

On a lighter note, when you get ready to loosen that HST filter for the first time. Think of me. Of to me laying on my back with both feet on a rear tire straining with a 24" pipe wrench to break that damn thing loose!
There is one strong assembly line worker/robot in that plant!

Can you clairify this? Does the service need to be done by a Kubota dealer to keep you compliant with their warranty?

The answer is NO IT DOES NOT!!!!! HD has done this for years as well as car dealers. There is a Federal Law which states doing any required maintenance on your equipment WILL NOT VOID YOUR FACTORY WARRANTY. How ever I would caution that you keep records of when you did your service what was done and if you bought filters and such from your dealer keep all the receipts together. And should something happen you have all the info you need, to get an issue taken care of while under warranty.

The first service is very important. That's when the manufacturing debris is removed by changing the filters and lubricants (Yes, I change the hydraulic oil also, regardless of the schedule in the owners manual).

I recently performed the 50 hour service on my M9960. The twin hydraulic filters have ring magnets at the mounting services. There was a considerable amount of metal particles on both magnets.

Yes, I changed all of the filters (not fuel) and HST oil on my L6060 at 50 hours as well, even though the owners manual does not specify that the HST oil be changed at first service.

SDT - this is a debated aspect of the 50 hour service.

I also changed fluid in HST and front axle in my BX at 50. I also believe it to be crucial, and it was small $$$ compared to your M and L tractors. Still important, nonetheless IMO.

I think you, Bulldog, and I are in the minority camp on this issue, but I'm okay with that! :)

when I purchased my MX, the UDT was still mineral based, so fluid and filter change required. (All)

The next time my fluid was changed, 254 hours, the filters were again included.
I wanted Super Synthetic UDT in my Reservoir!!

The point is thus: If filters only are changed, How much fluid escapes?

Now the fluid can be captured in a super clean container and poured back into the reservoir but I did not see clean containers around service dept.


So I do my own service.

Major- I certainly can’t speak to your MX, but the HST filter on my BX is low on the tractor. Figured fluid would rush out.
I had to replace a dented filter a while back and bet I didn’t lose a quart, tops. Probably closer to half that if you figure the filter itself holds a pint.
I was quick about it, but surprised me how little I lost.

How much fluid is lost?

How fast are you at changing the filter?

If you remove the filter and let it just drain, it'll fill up a 5 gal bucket.
