I am having trouble shifting the pto in to the on position. Replaced the lever kit. However if the lever comes all the way back it locks up. You can move the PTO rod where it links to the linkage (under the seat) 1/8 inch and it will free the linkage and work; but this has to be done ever time. If anyone has any thoughts please reply.

If you can freely operate the PTO clutch lever at the tranny then you have something mechanically binding in your linkages to the hand lever. Disconnect the PTO clutch link at the tranny lever and work your way backwards. Check if the retaining nut is still tight at the clutch link and at proper adjustment.

Do you store your machine outdoors?

Hey Mikester, what if the PTO selector shaft is stuck solid, but the linkage is all fine? Does that mean the selector shaft is bound up due to rust/corrosion, or is it often something else inside the trans? No problems with the mower only that it's been sitting all last season and it's humid here. Thanks so much for your advice. I've been soaking it in WD-40, expensive bottle and don't want to cause damage from trying to work it loose if it's not just weather corrosion.

Nevermind Mike. But thanks for your other posts. This whole issue was solved with WD-40 silver can and a LOT of torque on the PTO selector shaft with a large adjustable wrench. Then working back and forth while adding more WD. Good luck (y)
